Report: Trayvon Martin gun-range targets called disgusting

Clickorlando.com is reporting that controversial Trayvon Martin gun-range targets featuring a hooded silhouette with Skittles in the pocket are being sold online by a George Zimmerman supporter.

An unidentified entrepreneur contacted the news station, saying he advertised the targets on a popular firearms auction website and sold out in two days. Two Florida gun dealers were among the buyers.

You'll notice it uses some of the letters but not all of them.

You know what it is I know what it is and so does everyone else.

I'm sure the skittles people don't want their name associated with the murder of a child. Surely enough to take it to court.

I don't know much about copyright/trademark laws, so I'm not sure what exactly has to be shown. The letters spell 'skit.' I wouldn't think Mars could make a case that using those four letters constitutes some sort of infringement. But I don't really know. Maybe they could. I wouldn't think so though.

Perhaps they will take it to court anyway just to register their strong opposition to the targets and get some good press over it. A rinky-dink suit like that is nothing to a huge corporation like Mars.

It is ingrained in the policies of local government. That's how endemic it is around here.

But it takes something like this to appeal to a sick sense of humor. You knew the vacuum would be filled.

It would be a mistake going out there and talking about something this trivial. There are probably lots of people dreaming up ways to make money off of this story.

Zimmerman attorney Mark O’Mara told WKMG that this type of “hatred” just makes his client’s defense even more problematic.

“This is the highest level of disgust and the lowest level of civility,” O’Mara said. “It’s this type of hatred — that’s what this is, it’s hate-mongering — that’s going to make it more difficult to try this case.”

“I hope there is a crime that we can charge that person who made that with,” he added. “I’m not sure what it is, but we need to come up with one because that’s disgusting.”

and particulars all over the internet. If nothing else, a good public shaming might cause him to rethink his behavior in the future.
