Since the Hillary supporters are already starting to accuse us getting a GOP candidate elected in 2016 because we are "attacking" Hillary, I thought we could let them know if we will still vote for Hillary.
I know I will. I would never vote for a Republican.

Disclaimer: This is an Internet poll |
I don't like Hillary and I will not vote for her. Fortunately, I live in CT, a state where recent trends suggest the DEM nominee will win in. The DEM nominee will likely win my state with or without my vote, so I am free to explore other options. If polls suggest that the race in my state will be close, I will reconsider my vote.

(39,370 posts)We'd never win the popular vote. I know it's all about electoral votes for the win, but popular vote matters a lot in terms of mandate/clout, and gives the President more leverage in his/her dealings with Congress.
I understand your thinking, but there's a cost to it if it were broadly applied.

(45,251 posts)people just don't vote at all.
BeyondGeography
(39,370 posts)Particularly if you're a Democrat. Bush lost the popular vote and proceeded to govern as if he was Reagan, post-1984, with the full support of the media. It doesn't work that way for our side, which everyone should understand by now.

(45,251 posts)times. Yet, he acted as though he had a mandate. Obama won strong in 2008 and acted as though he had less than half the vote. I voted all three times because I happen to love voting. But, it didn't matter.
BeyondGeography
(39,370 posts)You think that wouldn't have been any harder if he had won a disputed election and lost the PV?

(45,251 posts)from where the discussion started. When someone does something like that, discussion doesn't seem to me to be their objective, so I'll stop after this post.
I don't think the vote changed what Obama did.
BTW, I live in Boston, the bluest area of the only state that went for McGovern.

(39,370 posts)The PV has value. Vote for the Democrat next November.

(2,506 posts)All he had to do was not sign the watered down partial roll back and ALL of Bush tax cuts would have expired. He didn't use his mandate at all.

(27,247 posts)He trailed Gore by more than 530,000 votes. But he certainly acted like he had a huge mandate, and he had a compliant Congress.

(99,710 posts)I voted in some twenty elections and I have never pulled the lever for a Republican.
I left the part of the ballot where you vote for Agricultural Commissioner in Florida blank because the clown , Charles Bronson (D), crossed party lines to support Jeb Bush in his 1998 gubernatorial race against Buddy MacKay.

DemocratSinceBirth
(99,710 posts)I don't know how it is now but at one time the Democratic party in Seminole County, Florida was so weak that they didn't even field candidates for some down ballot races. In those instances the candidates were a Libertarian and a Republican and in those instances I left it blank. My vote is precious to me and I use it judiciously. That's why I didn't vote for Charles Bronson.
*Well actually I stayed home a lot because I voted absentee ballot several times.
merrily
(45,251 posts)I've requested an absentee ballot. I tell myself, it's insurance. But, you have to send it in before election day. I always let the mailing deadline pass, though. Truth is, I have a near insane love of going to the polls on election day, even if it means waiting on line in freezing rain. Being in Boston, I always have a Dem on the ballot. But, if I lived somewhere else, I'd write in.

(1,508 posts)It's either vote for her or vote for someone even worse. I'm so sick of having to vote against the worse person. I actually voted for Obama the first time, thinking we were actually going to get what we truly needed. Went right back to voting against the worse person the next time.
This rigged game has me so disenchanted I often wonder why I even bother anymore.

(17,997 posts)Unfortunately, his thoughts are not and have taken on many different incarnations.
I have seen the question within different posts a bunch of times. But this is the first actual poll I have seen
You are correct in your anger and criticism. I 100% agree with you. I would have been right there with you up through today. But I have realized that DU is DU and there are just things that are what they are. No way is that going to change. Really obvious as of this last week. So I have 3 choices; be angry, leave, or, accept the things I cannot change. Don't want to be angry, don't want to leave and, not being part of TPTB here, I accept that things are what they are.
merrily
(45,251 posts)If someone were holding a gun to my head, forcing me to answer the question, I might be angry, but no one is, so I'm only voicing my objection to being asked again and again.

AUTOMATED MESSAGE: Results of your Jury Service
On Sat May 30, 2015, 08:53 AM an alert was sent on the following post:
Bernie Supporters, Will you vote for Hillary in the General if she is the nominee?
http://www.democraticunderground.com/10026751214
REASON FOR ALERT
This post is disruptive, hurtful, rude, insensitive, over-the-top, or otherwise inappropriate.
ALERTER'S COMMENTS
Divisive call out posts, labeling Hillary supporters and Bernie supports like this does nothing but divide us. DU's stated goal is to elected Democrats, this is outside of that by saying one side is attacking the other, please vote to hide this post which only serves to divide us.
You served on a randomly-selected Jury of DU members which reviewed this post. The review was completed at Sat May 30, 2015, 09:01 AM, and the Jury voted 0-7 to LEAVE IT.
Juror #1 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: We're in the primary, not the general. There ARE Hillary supporters and Bernie supporters. This is reality, not some evil plot.
Juror #2 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE

(45,251 posts)That never occurred to me. I'll have to consider that possibility.
HereSince1628
(36,063 posts)It's elevation of a remotely possible and distant event to an immediate and significant problem. That worry seeks a supply of reassurance, which is to say, it turns to outsiders to fix the personal worry.
Then there is the statement that essentially says, don't worry about me, I'm a good one of Us.
On reflection that statement seems to be a response to worrying about the question "Am I seen as a good member of Us?"
merrily
(45,251 posts)The eagerness to say, "Yes, I will say I am going to do what you want," I interpret as approval seeking. I refuse to engage in it, but I get the motivation. The motive for the original request, sometimes demand, for the loyalty oath, though, is not as evident to me.
For one thing, eliciting the wrong answer can lead to a hide or banning. That was more of a consideration before I saw the poll indicating a ten to one difference here between left and right. For another, a loyalty oath is requested more by those on the right, be it the political right or DU's right.
Surely, both left and right are capable of being anxious about the outcome of a primary? Yet, I have not seen a single poll about "If Bernie wins the primary, will you vote for him?"
And these requests about voting for Hillary in the general no matter what, began, often with a degree of insistence, when Hillary's numbers were sky high and no one had yet even mentioned exploring mounting a challenge to her.

That said, I feel very detached from both Bernie and Hillary in that, by the time it is primary time in my state, the democratic candidate will already have been chosen. So I see no reason to get to involved in the primary wars going on here at DU.[/font]

(231 posts)The only thing that would keep me from voting for her over whoever the Republicans nominate would be if she moves into some kind of "hawk" mode on military intervention. I've pretty much reached the point where I can't bring myself to pull the lever for another war maker even if I like his/her other positions.
If she starts with the "let's get tough" talk on Syria or Iraq or Russia or anyplace else...well, there is always some poor Green Party guy out there who could use a symbolic thumbs-up.
