LINCOLN Luis Olivas got to feel a little bit like a 16-year-old again Friday when he got his first drivers license in his home state.
Im going through that excitement when Im 26, said Olivas, whose ability to obtain a license was secured Thursday through a veto override by the Nebraska Legislature.
Less than 24 hours after lawmakers passed Legislative Bill 623, the state began issuing drivers licenses to young adult immigrants who were brought to the country illegally as children.
Nebraska officially joined the other 49 states that grant licenses to immigrants who can stay in the United States without fear of deportation under a federal program called Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, or DACA.
