WASHINGTON - A course for U.S. military officers has been teaching that America's enemy is Islam in general, not just terrorists, and suggested that the country might ultimately have to obliterate the Islamic holy cities of Mecca and Medina without regard for civilian deaths, following World War II precedents of the nuclear attack on Hiroshima or the allied firebombing of Dresden.

The Pentagon suspended the course in late April when a student objected to the material. The FBI also changed some agent training last year after discovering that it, too, was critical of Islam.

The teaching in the military course was counter to repeated assertions by U.S. officials over the last decade that the U.S. is at war against Islamic extremists - not the religion.

"They hate everything you stand for and will never coexist with you, unless you submit," the instructor, Army. Lt. Col. Matthew Dooley, said in a presentation last July for the course at Joint Forces Staff College in Norfolk, Va. The college, for professional military members, teaches midlevel officers and government civilians on subjects related to planning and executing war.

evidently some 800 officers took the course- which was offered from 2004- before there was a complaint.

professors along with the administrators who approved this on the payroll.

5. I wonder what group they will go after next?

I mean if they succeed in their goal of eradicating Islam from the face of the earth, they will have to think of a new enemy. America needs enemies. Hmm, maybe they'll start a war with Asia and bomb some Buddhist and Hindu sites, and kill thousands of people in the process.

Seriously, it's fucking ridiculous that this "blow up Mecca" thing was ever taught as a serious solution. You would have Muslims revolting the the streets of Europe and the North America and who could blame them? The entire Islamic world would be a against the U.S. and allies. Odds are there is at least one Muslim nation with nuclear weapons, and I'm willing to bet even a moderate state with a Muslim majority would use them if you blow up Mecca and Medina. So you would start a nuclear war and possibly end the human race.

7. what I find most disturbing about this story

is, well, everything But beyond it's being OKed to be taught in the first place, it's mind boggling that either 800 or so officers went through this course without anyone making a ruckus about it or that people did make a ruckus about it and complaints were ignored.
