Bernie Sanders just voted for the USA Freedom Act....

Rubio and Paul noted nay....

-------------

If you’re wondering how presidential candidates voted tonight on USA Freedom Act, here’s the list:

Independent Bernie Sanders and Republican Ted Cruz were both yes votes.

Republicans Marco Rubio and Rand Paul were both no votes (albeit for very different reasons)

And Republican Lindsey Graham just didn’t show up. He is scheduled to formally announce his presidential candidacy tomorrow in his home town of Central, South Carolina.

4. Bernie Sanders On USA Freedom Act: "I May Well Be Voting For It," Does Not Go Far Enough
Sun May 31, 2015, 09:45 PM
May 2015

CHUCK TODD: I know you're going to be flying back form Minneapolis to Washington for this Special Senate Session. The PATRIOT Act, the NSA, section 215, I assume you are a supporter of the USA Freedom Act. Are you?

BERNIE SANDERS: I may well be voting for it. It does not go as far as I would like it to go. I voted against the original PATRIOT Act and against the re-authorization of the PATRIOT Act.

We have got to be vigorous about defending the American people and we have to do it in a way that protects their Constitutional rights, and I am very very worried, what we are seeing not only from not only the NSA and the government, but from corporate America...

Privacy rights, it is a huge issue. I am not comfortable with it, but we have to look at the best of bad situations.

and leeway in this country.

It's been that way for a long time.

All too often unarmed blacks are killed and gays are persecuted and women are treated like shit simply because of how they were born.

I think it was Louis CK who said straight white male is the easiest setting. Others are held to different standards.

First, he'll jump for joy, and then he'll plan to throw a pajama party tomorrow night so they can have one of their old-fashioned pillow fights after guzzling down a few "suicides", drinks made from 7-up, with a spoonful of vanilla flavoring added!
Craig will probably advise Graham to take a wide stance on most of the issues.
Cuz that's what worked for his so well.

if he voted no, it would still advance. This was at a 75 for it vote. They need 60

If he voted with the nay votes, you guys would crucify him for voting with Rand Paul.

It's predictable and dishonest. By the way, I am the mythical independent you guys need. you think others who read this board will not notice the ahem...spin.

Same shit was tried with the Junior Senator from Ill. What happened to that fella? He seemed like a young idealist. The last two terms of the Clinton Administration have been smashing.

In any event, since I am not a purity or one-issue voter, I trust that Bernie has a good reason for that, and it would take a lot more than this to switch my support to O'Malley. There is nothing that would get me to switch my support to Hillary. So, I'm good.

It hardly makes any sense that he would capitulate like this. There was such a huge, huge disparity in yea vs nay votes, his one lonesome vote would not have changed the outcome, so why did he vote In this manner?

Tonight's vote was a vote for cloture - it effectively killed the Patriot Act, which expires as of midnight EDT.

Every single Democrat present in the Senate voted "Yea" on cloture. Two Democrats did not vote because they were not present.

Why are you posting misinformation?

The soonest there will be an actual vote on the USA Freedom Act is Tuesday - it's right there in your link.

Sanders voted to let the USA Freedom Act move forward.

He has just stated on national TV that he will NOT be voting for the USA Freedom Act as it does not do enough to protect citizens from unconstitutional invasions of privacy all in the name of supposed protection.

Of course, ignorance about cloture fades next to "forgetting" the votes from every Democrat in the Senate.
