and he seemed to be in panic mode. It took me a while to undersyand exactly what was wrong with his laptop, but finally I figured out he was telling me that his desktop (he didn't know the term) was turned 1/4 turn clockwise. I remember doing a search and finding the keystrokes for him to fix it, but I don't remember what they were.

About 20 years ago I dropped by my brothers house. His deektop computer was shut off and the key was removed (remember when they had actual keys?). I asked him what was up. He told me that one of his boys had done something to the computer and they would not tell him what or how they did it, they would not admit their culpability. I thought for a moment and said "I think I know what's up and I might be responsible". The boys were 12 and 10 and the eldest started to laugh quite hard while the younger, quieter boy just got a big grin. This happened so long ago it was Windows 3.1 and the computer wasn't even hooked up to the internet. (I think the options were AOL, Prodigy, or Compuserve.) Anyway, the desktop icons on this 486 were huge. I made them smaller and arranged them along the bottom of the 'desktop'. I guess I should have told my brother what I did and why it was easier to use that way.

(Those boys are now both married homeowners and one has a 7 month old baby.)
