2. Strange those numbers do not add up to 100%

Was there a 3% or 4% that did not want to pick from the two?

3. Yes, when you open the .pdf with 'full results' it shows 4% with no opinion

It also shows that the statement might actually hurt Obama. I am still really glad he said what he said, but the gallup poll shows that twice as many independants say it makes them less likely to vote for him than the other way.

That's OK. We have to work harder now, but its worth it.

I too am glad he made the statement, it is long overdue and if we have to work twice as hard then so be it!

8. I'd love to drill down and find out what that actually means

When Gallup or anyone else calls you, I think you basically get to self identify. I dont know that for sure, but if they called Sean Hannity, for instance, he could say he is a Democrat and then give his answers. That is one possible explanation.

Another possible example takes more of an explanation. There are many places, the panhandle of Florida being one, where the local Democrats are to the right of where Republicans are where I live in NYC. Several Democratic groups in the panhandle endorsed and voted for George W. Bush for instance, in 2000. In their opinion, the Democratic party is much too far left. Nader supporters used those votes to say Democrats were to blame for Bush's election, not Nader voters.

Are those real Democrats? Again, calling yourself a Democrat when you believe in none of the things Democrats believe in doesnt mean much.

And those that will never vote for Obama are never going to support anything he says or does anyway.

And like you, it also frustrates me. I was really hoping with Obama's announcement others would "evolve."

Maybe, as in our President's case, it will take time.

One can hope, right?

9. Look at the % of Repubs that approve. They are stuck in the dark ages.

The Repub party is getting older and older and being left behind. Not just by the very young but those in their 30's and early 40's too. They cannot sustain their party this way but they are more then welcome by me to keep doing it.
