Bernie Sanders on Late Night w/ Seth Meyers: Plans to Vote Against Patriot Act Replacement (VIDEO)

Last edited Tue Jun 2, 2015, 06:37 PM - Edit history (1)

Sen. Sanders discusses the Patriot Act, "50 Shades of Grey," and his folk-"singing" "career." This segment does not include the beginning of the interview where he explains Democratic Socialism.

later when passage is assured.

I'm believe he has a deal so Democrats don't come after him hammer and tongs but that is speculation and no should be no not I was for it before I was against it and vice versa.

Bernie is still the best running and one of a select handful of the best of the best but the procedural vote is a cop out and an excuse done for seemingly little effect than tarnishing himself.

No it isn't okay, but he does remain far and away the best option.

Have you not been paying attention the last 6 years?

Everything the republicans blocked didn't happen in an up or down vote it was blocked by filibuster of the cloture vote.

The excuse for this is fucking ridiculous. If he wanted to vote against it the cloture vote was the time . His vote won't be anywhere near as effective in the regular vote.

Bernie isn't stupid he knows this damn well. He is counting on the electorate being stupid enough to buy his ridiculous notion that voting against it when it won't matter is some how more important than voting against it when there was actually a chance of stopping it.

It is complete nonsense and makes it very clear that Bernie is pretending to do something.

I couldn't be more disappointed.

And takes 60 votes as opposed to the simple majority. After cloture there is no filibuster.

The time to stop a bill is before cloture and voting for it removes the biggest hurdle to passing a bill.

The idea that someone is trying to stop a bill by voting for cloture is ridiculous on it's face.

Something someone who supposedly wants to explain things to people should know and something Bernie certainly knows, but he played you and a lot of others for rubes counting on you not to understand basic senate procedure.

If you are against something you don't vote to make it easier to pass.

That's like saying you should vote for fast tracking the TPP so you can stop it in an up or down vote.

Pure BS

And very disappointing coming from the supposed principled candidate.

I love it when people post clips here. He's a funny guy who can laugh at himself.

If anyone can find the rest of the interview where he talks about Democratic Socialism, please post it. I looked on youtube and couldn't find it. Maybe it will be up later.

With his vote for cloture. The fact that not only are people swallowing that nonsense he just pulled but using the thread that points out what nonsense he is spewing while pretending how principled he is is so ludicrous it is difficult to believe.

He just laid it out there and said since the 1% has gotten 99% of the income gains over the last few decades, they just newd to pay THEIR FAIR SHARE of taxes. He talked about Warren Buffet paying a lower % in taxes than his secretary. Warren said that years ago and still nothing has changed. He also mentioned corporations offshoring their trillions of profits in tax havens. Bernie needs to hammer home the FAIRNESS angle.

And the "folk singing" was hilarious!

Just so it's all in one place. I think with one in the Sanders group and one in GD, the conversations may be a tad bit different
