An associate just sent me the following link. It is to a news article, complete with an audio recording of Senator Ted Cruz. I read the article and listened to the recording; admittedly, I am only half-way through my first cup of coffee this morning, and can't be 100% sure, but I suspect that this could remove this pimple on the republican party's ass.

(20,709 posts)If this is actually Ted Cruz, his career is over. I don't know his voice well enough to tell, and without other evidence, I don't think it's conclusive.
It sure sounds like him to me.

(17,193 posts)I'm sure there will be good excuses offered, or it will be claimed the sound quality is insufficient to determine the word used. Granted, I've only just started on my first cup of coffee this morning, but I think they'll brazen it out.
On edit: from comments appearing downstream, it appears Poe's Law is in operation.

(11,138 posts)WHAT was said is clear as day. I just can't be certain it was Cruz that said it. Sure sounds like him though.
On edit: This is on the "about us" page of the site linked to. "Disclaimer: The Stately Harold is satirical fabulation and fabrication. No stories presented have a grain of truth to them".
So... it's a fake.

(14,255 posts)no one else is listening or recording, and that this, sorry to say, won't lose any support or votes for Cruz that he already has. Maybe it would energize more voters to vote for Obama if Cruz was running against Obama, but that is not the case. But I think that it might even get Cruz more support from voters, if not from GOP hierarchy. It would be a big mistake to think the GOP has any shame.
If it is satire, or not - i don't think it will hurt Cruz at all.

It didn't sound much like Ted Cruz's "public speaking" voice.

(10,168 posts)If that's not him, I would be surprised. He's done.
Sadly I don't think it would hurt him if it wasn't.

(30,481 posts)I will bet he has to consciously think about not using the word in reference to Obama.

(12,157 posts)and give him their vote. If I was a bigot like him I would say we have a s(word) or g(word) in the Senate. It's ironic because his voters would use those pejorative words to describe him. "Well he is a Güero (light skin) nearly gringo so it's alright."

Another telling quote from the original source.
The statement is already drawing angry reactions from liberal groups such as the organisation VLLWOOE "Vocal Loud Liberals With Opinions On Everything", a spokesperson of which, Helen Eritas, had this to say to TSH:

ON EDIT: Oh, I see others beat me to it. I rushed to point out that it is untrue (without pausing to read the replies to the OP) because I feared others would run with it and thus offer a target for Tea Party operatives.

(53,774 posts)It's like in 2012 when the crowded repug field winnowed itself down with I'll be kind unforced errors, the worst and most consequential being Rmoney's "47%" remark, also caught on tape.
Buh-bye, Cruz, nice knowing you.

(10,044 posts)if it's not true. Not for his sake, but for the President's sake. It will be difficult to complete his term with this insult flooding the Capitol and White House.
When one gets to the high level of the office of a US Senator, he and we would expect more. If Cruz did say it, it's sad for all of us that he made it this far, and this should be the end of his journey in politics.
Listening to the tape several times, I catch a word starting with an "L", not an "N", sounds like "leager," but that makes no sense at all. And the accent - isn't it deeper southern than Cruz' and his companion said it? It's obvious they are joking, but that doesn't excuse using the N word.
I am hoping he didn't say it, and that the word was not the N word.
In spite of that stupid Pamela Gelller woman, speech isn't free and there are consequences, like losing an election and making people feel hurt and angry....
