Republican presidential hopeful Rick Santorum says he loves Pope Francis, but he wants the pontiff to stop talking about climate change.
Santorum, a devout Catholic, told Philadelphia radio host Dom Giordano on Monday that the pope should "leave science to the scientists."
His comments come as the pope becomes increasingly vocal about climate change and is expected to release a groundbreaking encyclical on the environment in the coming weeks.
Santorum described himself as a "huge fan" of the pope and said he appreciates the pontiff's commitment to family issues, but he wants the church to stay out of science.

Can we keep the non-scientists out?

Pope Francis is preparing a groundbreaking encyclical to be released in the coming weeks that's expected to make the case that taking action to fight climate change is a moral and religious imperative.

(1,127 posts)Accordingly, it was interesting to me to the newest Pope, Pope Francis, isnt just a cleric. Hes also a scientist.
Or at least, he was. When Jorge Mario Bergoglio was a young man, he graduated from technical school as a Chemical Technician. He then earned his Masters Degree in chemistry from the University of Buenos Aries. It was only after that that he decided to become a priest.

(2,560 posts)I was actually referring to people like Santorum and Monckton who have no background in science.
But, I didn't express myself very well.
My apologies.

It would be unconscionable not to do so.
