Trying to think of the last time I saw POLICY addressed as a campaign issue here. Can't remember.

I am of the opinion that by the time the election actually rolls around, POLICY rather than a 45 year old high school incident is what's going to carry the day. Given the current state of the economy, the current state of un/underemployment, and the current state of energy prices; I'm not confident that Dems can carry the day if their ONLY talking points are a dog who shat on top of a car, a rocker who shat his pants, a statement of solidarity with same sex couples (but no real action in that direction) and Mormonism.

Days before the election they're going to come out with a county by county comparison of how it was then, vs how it is NOW. We're not going to win that fight unless the tide turns drastically between now and then.

To those of you who think a General Election can be won by talking incessantly about how an 18 year old privileged kid acted in high school 45 years ago I say this... If we lose the election in November; I blame YOU. If we lose in November because you thought placing a dog on top of a car disqualified a person from the presidency and needed to be shouted from the rooftops and it doesn't, I blame YOU. If we lose in November because no one cares if Ted Nugent shat his pants during the Vietnam War, I blame YOU. To those who think a Presidential Election can be won because the candidate's wife never needed to work, I blame YOU.

Between now and the election the rethugs will win the war of "what have you done for me lately?" if all we have to talk about is how Romney acted in high school. Pretty soon they'll be poisoning the airwaves with President Obama's drug use during HIS high school days.

As far as Romney's Bain Capital days go, and President Obama's statements about laying workers off in consideration of the "bottom line" or maximizing profits, look for this: Explain the requirement that GM and Chrysler close OVER 2,200 dealerships during the auto bailout. Look for questions about what happened to those workers who were let go (how many workers lost their jobs?), and WHY were they let go if not in consideration of the "bottom line" and to maximize profits?

Our answer? DID YOU KNOW TED NUGENT SHAT HIS PANTS? but, but, but... SEAMUS!

That's not going to work with the general public like it does here at DU, kids. Out there, it's going to boil down to "where's my job?, and secondary to that is "why am I not making as much money as I was promised should I get the degree in history?".

So let's keep talking about dogs who shat on cars, rockers who shat their pants, the Mormon Spaghetti Monster vs the Christian Spaghetti Monster, and things a priveliged kid did nearly a half-century ago and expect those things to win a Presidential Election. Oh, and in the meantime, let's expect those VERY SAME THINGS to win the House, and the SENATE.

Fuck POLICY, right? Romney put his DOG on top of his CAR!

Whistle past the graveyard if it makes you feel good.

Policy? I'm not seeing posts about policy. Maybe you can point me to one?

Me? I'm not convinced half-century old shenanigans vs current conditions wins the day... I'd like to see plans. I'd like to see someone say "I'd do THIS".

Even as the parent of a wonderful gay daughter whose plans are someday to be my wonderful gay son, I'm more worried about her future employment possibilities rather than President Obama's statement about his personal feelings concerning same-sex marriage that he has no intention of acting on.

Strangely enough, so is she.

I don't think Obama will lose, but if he does, we should blame anonymous posters on an internet message board.
