REASON FOR ALERT

This post is disruptive, hurtful, rude, insensitive, over-the-top, or otherwise inappropriate.

ALERTER'S COMMENTS

While I understand that people have negative opinions of these people, calling a woman - ANY WOMAN- a wh*** is totally inappropriate no matter the circumstances.

You served on a randomly-selected Jury of DU members which reviewed this post. The review was completed at Sun Jun 7, 2015, 11:52 AM, and the Jury voted 0-7 to LEAVE IT.

Juror #1 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #2 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: Oh please.
Juror #3 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: I disagree with the alerter. The language the alerter is using is too politically correct for me. I don't have a problem with the alerted-upon post: Leave it alone.
Juror #4 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #5 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: mediawhore has been an acceptable term on DU since I joined, when mediawhoresonline was still a thing. And FWIW the Duggars aren't all women, either.
Juror #6 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: Dear, he's calling the right wing media, most of the leaders of whom are male, whores, meaning they sell themselves for money. They do. You need to toughen up.
Juror #7 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: No explanation given

Thank you very much for participating in our Jury system, and we hope you will be able to participate again in the future.

Both media whores have produced very vocal responses from other Republicans

One man a danger to all minor girls is upheld as an icon...a life that is held as the standard for all.

The other vilified and degraded.....his choices affecting only himself.

transgender persons of much more gravitas and much less ballyhoo many times over in the past. The larger culture failed to do so, so now that conversation is happening starring Caitlyn. The conversation is in fact a prerequisite for graduation, and it might have been best to talk about Wendy Carlos or Lana Wachowski or Dr Marci Bowers or Chaz Bono or even Alexis Arqutte, but no. Straight America could not get into it prior to Jenner. Whose fault is that exactly?

Jenner's transition and the Kardashian clan.

Here I thought we would be able to talk about Jenner, one of the most public transgender individuals in the world, in the context of trans* rights and acceptance, without invoking the Kardashians every fucking time, even with the divorce and the knowledge that Jenner had been considering transitioning well before she ever met that family making them irrelevant as far as the transition is concerned to all except the usual suspects looking for an excuse.

I would also hope we'd be able to discuss her without drawing any comparison whatsoever to a family that enabled a child molestor and pushed a blatantly misogynist worldview through their show.

I even thought that all of this nonsense makes this discussion about trans* rights all the more important.

But, hey, I guess that's all asking too fucking much.

It's like "Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous" goes transgender.

I have a family member who watches a lot of the trash TV and I get involuntarily exposed to it from time to time, all I can say is it's surprising our culture isn't an even bigger mess.

And the issue you have is more a media issue than a Jenner issue. Yes, the show is one thing, but the roll out of the information about everything else has been milked by the media itself.

But the result of it all is fantastic for people who have been suffering hugely, quietly, for years. A good chunk of that curtain has been pulled away and there's a lot more people that are a lot more understanding now that they've seen it laid out so simply and clearly.

As much as I'm bored by the constantness of it in the infotainment news programs, it's done a hell of a lot of good.

I can't say that about the Duggar stuff.

It's just like when the conversation really began to change in the early 2000's with more gay people on TV. It changes the dynamic, it gets people talking, and it begins to push back in a strong way against bigotry and other issues, allowing more people to talk about it and who they really are.

I've seen countless discussions about it throughout social media, particularly with millennials in shock at the way their parents are about it, and that they're pushing back against them to get them to understand it.

Plenty of good will come from it and has for many people. Just the sheer amount of "media acceptance" on the infotainment side has been a huge boon.

of a group of people who have been mostly ignored.

The conversation seems to be going in a good direction for the transgender community.

Of course, religious fundies may not see that as "good". But it's almost an axiom that what they see as "not good" really is good for the normal world.

(I'm not a Jenner fan. To my knowledge, she's a conservative republican, who is using her wealth to solve her personal issues that most people with similar issues don't come close to having the resources to solve, and anyway those folks would probably rather eat and have a decent secure home first.)
