Models in short shorts
I was walking down the street the other day when two men in a car came to a screeching stop just to yell at me. And while usually I welcome anytime I can stop traffic and even love a good catcall and will respectfully deliver one back to a man this time, it wasnt particularly flattering
Boys shouldnt wear short-shorts! No! one of the men screamed.
My first thought was: These arent even my short ones!
Since then, Ive been yelled at a few more times about my shorts, most recently by a woman in a passenger seat of a van who angrily called my khaki shorts hot pants. (I couldnt tell if her anger was at the shorts or because I had jaywalked.)
Celebrity stylist Aaron Gray who was recently anointed the gay bestie to Real Housewives of Atlanta star Nene Leakes told me that he has experienced street harassment for as long as he can remember. I once had a man throw a glass bottle at me not because I was wearing short-shorts, but because my legs looked too feminine in them and he thought I was a girl, he said.
Which says more about him and the issues he had with sexuality, he continued.

Last year, the hemline of shorts began to rise above the knee and flirt with the male private parts: immediately anti-mens shorts sentiments exploded across the internet debating whether men should wear short-shorts, or even shorts at all. Even famed photographer Annie Lebowitz chimed in and said that men in shorts were repulsive, and that shorts made men look like children, harkening back to the origins of the apparel.

(5,417 posts)The one thing you can not change is my opinion, but I realize most people don't care about my opinion and I'm OK with that.
I bike a few thousand miles a year and I wear bike shorts. You might think I look stupid in those, and I would probably agree with you. I just don't want to bike 100 miles in cargo shorts. It would not make for a fun day.
Just wear what makes you happy, but I might still think its a dumb look.

(18,402 posts)Basketball is a lot less fun to watch since they changed from those little tight shorts to the long baggy things.

(357 posts)Personally I never could care less what's "in fashion". And I'm glad to the silly baggy shorts disappearing. Wear what you like, what you feel good in, and to hell with whomever doesn't like it!

(1,290 posts)I've heard several guys tell me they were yelled at for being "too feminine" or "too gay" looking, whatever that's supposed to mean. Short shorts prompt that response, as does certain (longer, more well-groomed) hairstyles. Also apparently wearing certain colors.
I think gone are the days where it was near universal for straight men to perform masculinity with verbal (and/or physical) violence towards gay men, but it's not completely dead yet.

(51,076 posts)look more like the kid on the right so you won't be catching me wearing short shorts but I have no problem with someone who feels good enough in their skin to wear short shorts. I like my shorts to hit me just about the knee. Speaking of wearing shorts yesterday I wore socks with my shorts for the first time ever. I'm a late comer to the wearing shorts world though as I am or used to be built more like a rail so I avoided them like the plague but with age I put on a few and got a whole hell of a lot more I don't give a shititis what someone says or thinks about me so I wear shorts, A Lot, now.
I'd give anything to look like the guy on the left or in the middle I but realize that day ain't coming so what the heck
ETA: my socks yesterday, I kinda' bunched them up down around my ankles, felt too weird to me to pull them all the way up.
I guess I'm just weird like that

(12,151 posts)I've been around long enough to remember all kinds of men's shorts, because I live in Florida, and I've worn all of them (not at once, mind you.)
Jogging shorts, cord shorts, jean shorts. They go up and down, and everyone acts like the previous version was obscenely short or ridiculously long, until the next trend emerges.
The worst are the tools that make with the "Grown men don't wear short pants hermherm." Popular point of view in cold locations, maybe, but try surviving a summer in the South in your fashionable skinny jeans and you will die. As you should.
Men wear shorts.
