A Phoenix school that was scheduled to play the 15-year-old Mesa girl and her male teammates forfeited the game rather than face a female player...

They cheated the girl and her team of the chance to play a championship game -

a defining experience they will not be able to have because of the self righteousness of this conservative school

rather than merely forfeiting a game, they should face sanctions. Would this have been ok if the player was black, or hispanic?

sounds more like they didn't want to get their asses kicked by a girl - an insult to their precious manhood.

Sanction their asses - don't let them play at all if they are going to cheat the other team because they don't like their choice of players!
