Breaking: Bomb threat clears White House briefing room

http://www.wtvm.com/story/29276709/bomb-threat-stops-tsa-hearing-police-give-all-clear

WASHINGTON, DC (RNN/CNN) - Officials are taking bomb-sniffing dogs through the White House briefing room a couple hours after a similar threat cleared a congressional hearing on the Transportation and Safety Administration on Tuesday.

Investigators found nothing hazardous in the Dirksen Senate Office Building and allowed workers back inside. Another report of a suspicious package turned out to be an unattended lunch container.

A congressional hearing about transportation safety was interrupted by the threat. The Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs committee was holding a hearing on TSA security concerns.

A few floors of the Dirksen Senate Office Building were evacuated.

Apparently the all clear has been given for the Senate Office Building.

1. Okay, call me REALLY cynical, but what I immediately thought of was the denny hastert coverage.

Guess what just got completely blacked out? Big-footed by this phoned-in threat to the White House and Capitol Hill. All the cameras and mics and satellite trucks and every reporter and anchor and camera crew in the biz shifts focus to THIS story and forgets all about denny hastert. I suspect somebody from his camp who's intent on keeping the spotlight OFF of him might have done this. That side of the aisle will stop at nothing. They have no scruples whatsoever.

denny hastert finally emerging from deep, dark, nobody's-seen-or-heard-a-peep-from-him seclusion to face this shit in court in public and that WOULD have been the lead for the rest of the day.

Not anymore.

Funny how that worked out, 'eh? What a strikingly convenient little stroke of luck for ol' denny, 'eh?

Just sayin'...

Considering all the security personnel and surveillance apparatus infesting the White House and the Senate Office Building, how in the world would someone get a bomb into those buildings? It's apparently eminently possible, though, based on the reaction of officials and investigators.

Odd.

Apparently, the initial threat was to a hearing on the TSA. Ironic, eh?

My guess is that we'll hear "abundance of caution" spoken multiple times on the evening news...

Can't find a link, but I heard it on WTOP — the local radio news station in DC.

Every single day here (Capitol Complex).

None of this is new or surprising.
