An 18-year-old arrested at last weekends McKinney pool party confrontation is working to debunk accusations that he interfered with police, saying Tuesday that he only wanted to reassure the girl thrown to the ground that he would call her mother.
Police later arrested Martin, the sole person taken into custody from the incident. Hes charged with evading arrest and interfering with police.
But Martin said in an interview Tuesday that he was trying to make eye contact to comfort the girl, who is his brothers classmate, when his friend bumped into him. He said that made it appear Im lunging toward the officer, but he said that wasnt his intention. In the video, he immediately backs off and runs away.
This case should be dismissed and if its not dismissed, I look forward to the opportunity to get that officer on the stand, Harris said. I look forward to getting all over him.

They never figured there would be a viral video. It was a white kid video taping them, after all.

(20,851 posts)including coming into contact with the person the officer is trying to arrest, apprehend, assault, molest? While the black male gets to approach once and had a gun pulled on him. Shit I'd run to. They dude was crazy. How can they charge him but not the officer or that other male or the two women that started the whole event.
More to the point the video shows he wasn't evading the police, he was evading being murdered. The cop is already off the force that pulled the gun on him. There is no crime evading an insane man wielding a gun no matter his title. When the man is committing a crime there is no crime interfering with him. We used to call the people that do... HEROES. The white guy whose helping commit the assault we call a criminal.
