Heard on an NPR show this afternoon re a discussion of how the supremes could rule on Obamacare

It struck me how easily swayed and utterly uniformed much of our public is. There was a really good discussion about the teeny tiny little clause that is actually tucked in the subsidy calculator section, the wording of which is the basis for the case coming up in front of the supreme court. The host asked the subject expert about what would happen if the court ruled against the case and tossed millions of Americans into a situation where they couldn't afford their insurance.

And the clincher - the expert said "republican politicians are hoping this will happen, and that come election time, the voters will blame Obama for losing their insurance". Forget all of the red states that opted out....forget any logic whatsoever.

Needless to say, that discussion didn't make me feel very good at all about our country's future - even if the court rules for keeping Obamacare as it is. The fact that we have a voting public - well, that only half vote at best - that has the attention span and understanding depth of - what? a rock? (with no insult meant to rocks)....

1. What it means

Jun 2015

What it means is, as usual, Democrats will have to overcome Republican lies, popular media mindless repetition of those lies, and lazy journalists who can't be bothered to communicate facts, and remind the public why their health care insurance has been whisked away.

Yes, it's too bad to say "when you're explaining, you're losing," but we don't have much choice when the public arena is tilted so heavily against us.

Millions of people will suddenly lose their subsidies and be faced with the choice of spending money they don't have in order to keep health insurance or face the fines for not having it.

They are not going to be happy about that. That's when the explanations need to take place, not in anticipation of another bad USSC ruling that hasn't happened yet.

Perhaps some of them will realize the connection between Republicans and idiots on the USSC.

it sinks here... but the if it bleeds it leads does very well. Here, people spend days on a shitty novel and words, but not policy. So don't blame the American people... you have that happening HERE. This is one of the reasons this place is **&*^... funny as hell to me. (Here, self censor less we spend days on a word, AGAIN)

Speaking of stories media does not generally speaking cover. I got a rally to write the story on from a local labor action. Not that it is of interest HERE on DU. That has been made abundantly clear.

REASON FOR ALERT

This post is disruptive, hurtful, rude, insensitive, over-the-top, or otherwise inappropriate.

ALERTER'S COMMENTS

It seems the only time nadine posts on here is to disparage DU and DUers. I think it is disruptive and rude. She is clearly trying to instigate and cause division here.

You served on a randomly-selected Jury of DU members which reviewed this post. The review was completed at Tue Jun 9, 2015, 06:03 PM, and the Jury voted 1-6 to LEAVE IT.

Juror #1 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: I think the alerter is the one trying to be disruptive by reporting a post simply because nadin posted it. Alerter can't point to anything in this post that violates TOS, just an opinion of what he or she thinks nadin is doing. Screw that - nadin is right!
Juror #2 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #3 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: YUP!
Juror #4 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: If cali gets to trash Hillary and the party daily, why shouldn't this be allowed.
Juror #5 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: It's not the only thing she talks about. Beyond that, it's not an overly harsh criticism of DU.
Juror #6 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #7 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: There is nothing Alertable about the post. There is nothing wrong with Nadin's posts. This alert appears to be just a personal vendetta, and the alerter should be ashamed for abusing the jury system with such a frivolous alert.

Thank you very much for participating in our Jury system, and we hope you will be able to participate again in the future.

a. most uninformed people who dont have a strong opinion on Obama one way or the other, will blame Obama and the Dems because the Nazi, uh I mean rightwing media machine is ALL media other than two hours a day or maybe 3 on MSNBC, all other media is rightwing and when the ENTIRE media tells you Obama is to blame, then Obama is to blame

b. it will kill some poor people, which they really want to do, no matter what color they are

c. it will make working people and the poor even more vulnerable, something the right absolutely LOVES

does anyone expect any kind of fair coverage, honestly?
SCOTUS will destroy the ACA and Democrats will be blamed. Media will reinforce that message daily.

Perception is reality.

that the Federal Exchange is there for states too cheap, or stupid, to develop their own. Had nothing to do with subsidies.

I guess we'll know soon enough.
