I like both of them.

(14,177 posts)Or at least not count the votes until everyone has voted. It seems weird to cut out entire states because of a schedule.
Recursion
(56,582 posts)For all its flaws, the campaign is just about the only way we get to see how well a candidate handles the sorts of administrative responsibilities a President will have.
Kalidurga
(14,177 posts)Just don't count the votes til it's over.

(94,502 posts)Are you also aware that "votes" don't equal "delegates" in the caucus system?
Kalidurga
(14,177 posts)a whole lot of people are saying it's over before they get to vote in their state. Perhaps you live on the east coast and it's not an issue. It seems that basic fairness would mean someone in California's vote counts as much as someone's in New Hampshire.

(14,177 posts)I have seen a lot of people say they don't really get to participate, because the candidate is all but nominated by the time their turn to vote comes around. I think it goes from February to around the end of June. They could make it so the voting is closer together like everyone votes around the same time in June.

(94,502 posts)...each State picks its own dates, excluding the opening 4 (IA, NH, SC and NV). Now, if you want a national Primary so everyone gets to have a say, fine by me but you just knocked out Bernie Sanders and every candidate who can't raise $2-3 hundred million to campaign everywhere at the same time.

(26,549 posts)Perhaps with regional primaries - CA gets a primary. Some portion of the southeast equal to CA's population gets a primary. And so on.
Would make the rotations much more frequent instead of once every 200 years.

(5,636 posts)I think it's critical we win this election, and Sanders will be destroyed in an election by corporate America. They would do whatever it takes to stop him. Also, I think it's really critical that this country get out the male mindset and elect a woman, and Hillary is one of the few women on the political scene who can win. She the toughest, gutsiest candidate in either Party whether one agrees with her or not.
Romulox
(25,960 posts)Well thank goodness that she doesn't have a "male mindset" (like Bernie!)

(17,045 posts)... By all the people who stay home.
I know that Democrats and Repulicans are not the same, but they are becoming more and more the same in some very important ways. People know that both parties are in service to a handful of wealthy elites and liberals are tired of having their votes extorted on the basis of social issues while both parties oversee redistribution of wealth to the few. If Hillary gets the nomination, people will just throw their hands up and stay home.
Bernie will win the votes of democrats, progressives and liberals of all stripes. He will inspire great voter turnout which always favors the left. He will attract the anti establishment vote. He will win.
If you want to beat the republican, support Bernie.
rhett o rick
(55,981 posts)with the best principles you choose to support the one you think might win. This is exactly how we got where we are, and it sure ain't good. Also you say, "She the toughest, gutsiest candidate in either Party whether one agrees with her or not. " Please think about what you said. You want her solely because she is tough. Margret Thatcher was tough. We need someone to stand up for the 99% and I don't think she will. I know Sen Sanders will. I would rather lose fighting for freedom and liberty than win and lose freedom and liberty.

(10,007 posts)We're being told that we have to elect the 'lesser of two goods' in the Primary, just so we can turn around and elect the 'lesser of two evils' in the General, all for the sake of "electability".
Let's play this out for the long run: if we continue doing this, where will we be in 2024? 2028? 2032? And what will the Democratic Party really represent?
cui bono
(19,926 posts)because you've already decided that it's no use to try to change things? What a defeatist attitude. So we should just send a corporate candidate even though that's exactly what's wrong with the US?
Also, no, Bernie is tougher and gutsier than Hillary. I don't see her speaking out against the banksters like he does.
As to your "male mindset" comment, that's pretty sexist. So you would discount the best candidate just because he is male? Yikes. I'd love to have a woman president but Hillary is not the right woman. Especially if you are going to use that argument. What are you hoping to avoid by electing a female? War? Hillary is the hawk, Bernie is the dove. Bernie fights for women. And Bernie is fighting for the 99%. I don't see Hillary going against banksters any time soon.

(73,535 posts)I will definitely participate in the Democratic primary. But, honestly, I do not know which of the candidates I will vote for. I believe that each of the four offers both strengths and weaknesses. And that beats the stuffing out of what the republican party is offering!
