The Facebook defense is not an actual defense

Can you imagine trying that in a college class. Yes, just try it once on a term paper footnoting Facebook. Yeah, it might be funny as a joke to you, but I assure you your professor will not be amused. A real journalist using a Facebook comment would be taking a whole lot of heat for it if they wrote a story based on a false Facebook meme.

Ironically the same people who seemed outraged at the Obama is a secret Muslim meme are so forgiving of this, really forgiving. I have to wonder why they are so forgiving. I wouldn't say Diana Rehm deserves to lose her job, but she does need to do a lot more than offer up the lamest apology I have seen in a long time. Democrats are supposed to be better than this.

Trying to crucify her for a poorly prepared question is nonsense. Sanders (like every other candidate) is going to face a lot of crap. He handled it fine and came out on top. Accept her apology and move on, imo.

He said a lot of good things in that interview. Why aren't his supporter trumpeting that? Why focus on the negative?

It was a good solid interview, albeit a bit standard following the US zeitgeist - but how does anyone avoid that?
So Sanders had to answer the same question (basically: how do you deal with republican/corporate power?) put in several different ways.
It goes without saying that he has to deal with the Clinton/corporate questions.

Look, people aren't perfect! Her apology was good enough for me.

some of use are still ANGRY about all the dog whistling that happened in the 2008 campaign, here we have an example.

It might be one thing to say "hey, Politics ain't no tea party" , but the fact is when people are attacked and attacked, then the same people will be wondering "Gee, why ain't no one standin up fer me now?" Because, ye who love Hillary's attack machine, when you attack everyone, including the people who want to keep the GOP out of power, then there is no one to stand up for you left, and the GOP will just quote a line from Bob Dylan:

"You say you never compromise
With the mystery tramp, but now you realize
He's not selling any alibis
As you stare into the vacuum of his eyes
And say do you want to make a deal?"

and it does not help that the centrist wing of the party has made so many deals that we might not have anything to hock anymore.. What is worse?, selling your soul, or realizing that you have no soul to sell anymore?

so many people are invested with the old dream that if only someone like THEM got into power, everything would get fixed.

I will be the first to agree that we need more WOMEN in POSITIONS OF POLITICAL POWER, period. I like seeing Dilma Rouseff in Brazil, and while I despise Angela Merkel, it is because she governs from the right, not because of any gender. However, I have no illusions about how Clinton will govern; she will listen to Bibi Netanyahu when it comes to war, and listen to Lady Rothschild when it comes to domestic policy. which is a nice way of saying if you are not part of the in crowd, shut up. Yes, the GOP is fighting for their in crowd, theirs is just a lot smaller, but thanks to "politics of identity" people feel that someone who looks like them means they have more clout, when really, it is all a puppet show.

and for the record, I am Hispanic, and I will state outright, clearly, that three of the people pimping their Latino credentials, namely Rubio, Cruz, and Bush, should not even be allowed NEAR Washington D.C, period. Habla Espanol all you want to amigos , I know who you serve.

in terms of if they are going to protect vulnerable people or not. I don't do identity politics. I do however recognize some people need more political clout than they currently have, I am willing to fight for that. But, I am not willing to put someone in office just because of a chromosome or because of ethic identity or whatever other superfluous reason is in at the moment.

reality is, some of the folks who run those pages are near where quite a few of the local major incidents have started over the years. They listen to scanners, and they look out their window. More than once you learn about a start from them before you do from any other source including the county. So during fire season, I check on them every hour or so. Them and the CHP.

During the Chariot fire, the first photos were posted by neighbors. We knew it was bad from those photos...

Some residents are also in really back areas of the county where they do what they can to stay in contact. The best way to look at it, would be an old fashioned phone tree for an emergency.

Use good sense, and quite a bit of salt for anything else. But fires, they are quite good. Like twitter, you also learn which poster is good and which one is not.
