Bill Clinton will have some tough decisions to make if Hillary Clinton wins White House, including whether to continue his lucrative paid speaking career.
At the Clinton Global Initiative meeting in Denver, the former president said that he will likely stop giving paid speeches if Hillary Clinton is elected president.
"No. I don't think so," Clinton said in an interview with Bloomberg TV when asked about staying on the paid speaking circuit were his wife to win. "Because once you get to be president, then you are just making a daily story."
But Clinton added that he would not stop speaking publicly altogether: I will still give speeches on things Im passionate about.
Just last month the former president indicated that he would continue to deliver paid speeches during his wifes presidential campaign, telling NBC News, I got to pay our bills.

(9,086 posts)All the corporation people will be tripping over each other to hand him checks right now, the last chance to pay the Clintons some cold hard cash right before they re-enter the government and become more powerful than ever.
And of course Bill knows that so I guess he's going to milk it.
This is taking the revolving door to a whole new level. Amazing to watch.

(23,664 posts)His ego will not allow him to step back and let Ms Clinton do her job and we just do not need him anywhere near policy decisions.
And don't say that's a sexist point of view. The man's a former president and a know it all. He's charismatic and full of good ol boy charm. He could sell iceboxes to Eskimos. No way will he take a back seat to the dull and awkward Ms Clinton.
Unfortunately, some of his decisions were so disastrously wrong that we're still living with the consequences.

$100 million in 14 years and he's still got bills to cover? That's the sort of thing that gets you called out of touch.

(53,396 posts)I have no problem with him giving free speeches but paid speeches as a member of the first family is a problem. There are some careers a member of the first, or second family can do without a real problem. When Dean was running I would have seen no problem with his wife remaining a doctor for example. Jill Biden did some teaching still, again, I see no real problem with that. But if either Hilary or Michele Obama had decided to continue their law practices while first lady that might have been a problem.

(15,480 posts)He'll still speak, but just have the $$$ turned over to one of his "charitable" multi million dollar organizations.
