General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region Forumsdear fellow Bernie supporters, I have a request
It would be great if not a single one of us pissed on the celebratory Clinton kick off rally threads tomorrow. It was a drag when some Clinton supporters did that in Bernie kickoff threads, though it should be noted that most Clinton supporters did not.
Tomorrow will be a great day for Clinton's DU supporters and they shouldn't have to deal with people pissing on those threads.
Edited to add: I am not suggesting that there shouldn't be other threads discussing and critiquing what she says in her speech, just that folks don't jump into celebratory threads to piss on them.

On wog night any known shellbacks get hazed, so to speak, but the shellbacks make a special case out of any participating wogs the next day. One must be very discrete on wog night.

(19,537 posts)... is if she takes a strong stand on TPP and TPA in her speech then. Then I'll give her CREDIT for doing so, whatever side she takes, though later in the coming weeks I might critique it if I find the stance flawed. Her not making her position clear is the biggest concern for me, and I would welcome a firmer stance, no matter how nuanced it might be if and when she does. It would be an appropriate time for her to do so.

(13,886 posts)It's a big day for Hillary and her supporters, let them celebrate it.
Cheese Sandwich
(9,086 posts)Nobody should be rude, but the most important time to analyze (and spin) is right after the speech ends.
For example, if she talks in her speech about how she wants to fight ISIS, it is totally fair to point out immediately that ISIS resulted from the Iraq war that she supported.
If she talks about protecting the environment, it would be correct to point out her connections to promoting Keystone pipeline and fracking.
I think people should politely but thoroughly criticize her speech while it is happening, and right after it ends.
cali
(114,904 posts)Starting a thread to discuss and critique her speech is not the same thing as jumping into Hillary supporters celebration threads.

(9,086 posts)Actually thanks for mentioning that.
And you mentioned that in the main post. But throughout the comments some people are interpreting it as don't say anything negative about Hillary's event or speech at all tomorrow.

(5,141 posts)Besides, its not my style, nor do I find Mrs. Clinton repulsive or evil (she also lives in the next town over from me--not that that means anything except the local Hilary fever that seems to be hitting this particular corner of Northern Westchester County).
I think Bernie, even if he doesnt win in the primary, is going to force a conversation politicians dont want to have about income inequality etc, so I feel like Bernie and the American public win either way.
If Mrs. Clinton wins the primary and is our candidate, I will support her.
But Bernie is MY guy. I love his way of thinking, his frankness, his fairness and this kid from the Bronx also loves his accent. It sounds like home. I really need to hear him say terlet for it to feel like all my old long-gone neighbors are speaking, but I dont think hell have many occasions to do so.

(81,498 posts)Really superb! Thank you!
I couldn't agree more! We all win even NOW because Bernie is showing himself to be a real class act and not taking any let's-go-bash-Hillary bait. Better yet - he is doing what many of us have longed to see for ages: talking progressive issues big-time, and getting them plastered all over the air/cable and the front pages. He's helping to push America more firmly and decisively to the LEFT!!

(59,504 posts)This is an event that should be seen as celebratory. You are right that there will be plenty of issue threads where anyone should be able to respond.
On some other day, it might be good to try to engage with the broader DU population to try to speak to what is bashing, what it is genuine discussion of an issue. To me, I've seen some on the Clinton side arguing that ANY comment that is the least bit critical or even neutral on HRC is an unfair attack -- and the poster I was going back and forth with was arguing that there was no comparable "attack" by them on Sanders. I pointed to comments on the Sanders' kick off -- but never got him(her ?) to admit that they were negative and insensitive.
I am so happy you are making an appeal that all of us refrain from any negative comments.
This event should have some awesome views of Manhattan from the island and the park itself. The theme of FDR should be interesting and it is sad that, given the 4 freedoms were articulated so long ago by a President who was so popular, that they are still not reality. (By the way, Hunter College owns the NYC townhouse that the young Franklin and Eleanor were given by his mother on the upper east side of NYC and their tours of the home are very interesting. My husband and I went to it earlier this year.)
This event, like Bernie's was, is designed to define the campaign. Both have amazing backdrops that mean a lot to the candidates. This should be a great day for the HRC and her supporters and it should be. Many have waited for a long time for this event.

(213 posts)I like Senator Bernie Sanders, but I'm cheering for Hillary to win the nomination and win the presidency. I truly believe she will take the Senator along with Senator Warren seriously, seek their input and run a progressive campaign that will make Dems proud. Truth be told, I am more of a Warren woman. A 75-year-old white-haired (don't color my hair) white woman who lives in Texas (sorry) who voted Liberal Dem in 14 presidential elections, as well as dozens of other elections, state and local. And Elizabeth Warren's message really resonates with my beliefs; however, she's not running and it's important we band together, work together to put another Democrat in the White House and at the same time take care of our own state and local houses!
