All of those who say the American Dream doesn't exist just aren't willing to do what it takes to earn it...it has never been easy or free...

day we used to work and do not make enough to live on because the prices have gone up. They come home exhausted and still have to feed their children and get them to bed at which time they still have the house to clean up .

That American Dream was gone for many already in the 1990s. We just do not want to admit it.

our working poor and work to many hours so someone else could get rich.

You know I am old enough to remember when we believed in the American Dream but that did not mean that it was working - it just meant we still believed it would work. And sure there were people who made it - there always will be. But for the most of us we are now old with little to show for all that hard work and scrimping and we have no savings. What we had we used for our children. I guess we should have all moved into one house and used our relatives in our businesses.

Many of those successful ancestors who made it were older children who got a lot of help from their parents while the younger children ended up trying to make it on their own. The younger ones even ended up taking care of their parents with little help from the older ones. That is the story of my family and many others.

And yes I am aware that immigrants come here believing they are going to achieve the American Dream. My own ancestor came with the same idea. And they see some that actually do that - like us it will take them a while to understand that not everyone has the opportunity.
