Just heard Tweety and Michael Steele discussing the RNC telling
the donald thanks but no thanks. Joan Walsh was on also and was aghast at Trump's egoist remarks...She says he is dangerous, I agree.

1. I agree with Joan
I said as much. He cannot be underestimated since he alone has the money to finance the campaign on his own.

15. Meh, no need to make him into a boogie man
He's a carnival barker. That's it.
Let's see if he's actually still in the race when the votes start getting counted. I have my doubts. And his money won't buy it for him. Nelson Rockafeller, Ross Perot, Pete DuPont, Steve Forbes and Willard Romney all had access to piles of money and couldn't get it done. Im sure if you wanted to go back beyond the 70s there would be others. they all threw away their money. Don Don will be no different. |

16. Please, do not insert words into my mouth
I know and understand enough of US History to know why he cannot be under estimated. He is not a carnival barker, he falls in a very specific U.S populist tradition that should never be under estimated.
I will leave it at that. I do not do much analysis here anymore. Suffice it to say, Joan Walsh understands that tradition as well. She is also far more of a partisan than I am as well. |

17. He's not going to be their nominee
And he's not going to be President.
Feel free to bookmark. I know I will. If you view his candidacy with any level of seriousness I'm not sure your analysis is something I'm terribly interested in anyway. |

I simply do not do that here any more. And people who know me OUTSIDE of DU find it interesting. Here. some folks made sure I don't care to do it any longer.
Though I do agree with Joan Walsh, she gets it. And lord knows she is coming from a far more partisan place than I am. |

19. George Wallace couldn't crack fifteen percent when this nation was much more racially polarized...
So Trump sits on a ton of dough...
David Ogilvy, the father of modern advertising wrote that the best way to kill an inferior product is to advertise it because people will buy it, learn it's defective, and never buy it again... If he's a danger to anybody he's a danger to Republicans. And the reason the populist movements of the nineteenth century died is because at the end of the day race trumped class... |

And that is as far as I intend to go with this on this site. |

There is no scenario where he gets the nomination and gets a plurality or majority of the votes necessary to get 270 Electoral College Votes...Even Ross Perot didn't get one Electoral College vote and for all his idiosyncrasies he looks absolutely staid next to Donald Trump...
Donald Trump poses a mortal danger, to the GOP. |

32. If he's unelectable then he isn't a threat...
So he gives a voice to nativist sentiment...Nativists have been with us since the beginning of the republic.
First it was the Chinese then the Irish then the italians then the Jews and now Latinos. And the beauty of this nation is they are all now accepted, for the most part, as Americans. |

34. I watched the same show...
So he follows in the footsteps of demagogues like Father Coughlin, Strom Thurmond, and George Wallace. None of those clowns sniffed the presidency...
There's nothing enigmatic, cryptic, or mysterious about him or his appeal other than he is loaded and consequently has a megaphone to air his reactionary views. |

21. Exactly right
He'd be better off if he had $9 billion, was a relative unknown and didn't have such an absurdly grating personality.
Most republicans I know like him a lot but want to win so badly they'd never consider voting for him as their party's nominee. That's one of the reason those speaking about him on this thread in hushed tones like he's some kind of threat to democracy are so easy to laugh at. |
