Is is a sad fact, Hillary helped to organize the TPP
While David Brooks is a scathing, unrelenting conservative, it does not change this fact. Of course this is why she is so quiet. Her campaign was also 'politi-facted' that she was 'clear on her position of TPP' as untrue. So few like this agreement. I'm not happy with how it's gone for democrats. David Brooks is so full of shit here on trade agreements and how they have 'helped, but the one fact here about Hillary, is very, very sad. THIS is why her husbands term comes into play now, another question her supporters are asking why. It is because we are living in Bill's NAFTA, end of the Glass Steagall Act world. It takes time....but here we are!
snip: http://www.nytimes.com/2015/06/16/opinion/david-brooks-the-democratic-tea-party.html?_r=0 The arguments Democrats use against the deal are small and inadequate. (BS) Some Democrats are suspicious because it was negotiated in secret. (They seem to have no trouble with the Iranian nuclear treaty, which is also negotiated in secret.) They work for us, so why a secret? Others worry that the treaty would allow corporations to sue governments. But these procedures are already in place, and as research from the Center for Strategic and Internatioanl Studies has demonstrated, the concerns are vastly overblown. They mostly protect companies from authoritarian governments who seek to expropriate their property. In reality, the opposition to the trade pact is part of a long tradition of populist reaction. When economic stress rises, there is a strong temptation to pull inward. The Republican Tea Partiers are suspicious of all global diplomatic arrangements. The Democrats’ version of the Tea Partiers are suspicious of all global economic arrangements. It would be nice if Hillary Clinton emerged and defended the treaty, which she helped organize.

4. You do know that Hillary was not the first SOS and their duties and their
responsibilities are not top secret? In fact I think just about any school child who has read a book on our government knows what those duties and responsibilities are.
http://www.state.gov/secretary/115194.htm these are some of the responsibilities and activities of the State Department and the SOS Serves as the President's principal adviser on U.S. foreign policy;
Conducts negotiations relating to U.S. foreign affairs; Grants and issues passports to American citizens and exequaturs to foreign consuls in the United States; Advises the President on the appointment of U.S. ambassadors, ministers, consuls, and other diplomatic representatives; Advises the President regarding the acceptance, recall, and dismissal of the representatives of foreign governments; Personally participates in or directs U.S. representatives to international conferences, organizations, and agencies; Negotiates, interprets, and terminates treaties and agreements; Ensures the protection of the U.S. Government to American citizens, property, and interests in foreign countries; Supervises the administration of U.S. immigration laws abroad; Provides information to American citizens regarding the political, economic, social, cultural, and humanitarian conditions in foreign countries; Informs the Congress and American citizens on the conduct of U.S. foreign relations; Promotes beneficial economic intercourse between the United States and other countries; Administers the Department of State; Supervises the Foreign Service of the United States. In addition, the Secretary of State retains domestic responsibilities that Congress entrusted to the State Department in 1789. These include the custody of the Great Seal of the United States, the preparation of certain presidential proclamations, the publication of treaties and international acts as well as the official record of the foreign relations of the United States, and the custody of certain original treaties and international agreements. The Secretary also serves as the channel of communication between the Federal Government and the States on the extradition of fugitives to or from foreign countries. |

6. I ask the question of the poster who may or may not know part of the responsibilities of the SOS is
"Promotes beneficial economic intercourse between the United States and other countries; "
ergo, promoting trade is part of the responsibility of the job. |

8. Could you point to the parts of TPP that are actually about trade?
Keep in mind there already are free trade agreements with 80% of the GDP covered by the TPP. 12% of the remaining GDP is Japan, where tariffs on US goods average 1.2%. USD-Yen currency fluctuation has been WAY more than 1.2%, dwarfing any effects of that small tariff.
So this massive treaty boosts trade with...8% of the GDP covered by the treaty. Oooo. Btw, what about the ISDS process, or extending copyrights and patents is about trade? (Not really a fair question since the TPP isn't about trade. It's about capital and investment.) |

3. Putting Hillary aside, I am convinced the reason Obama is in favor of this trade agreement
other than those who support him financially are for it, is because he knows
our actual future, and he knows that our jobs are gone, for good. That unless we are willing to do drastic protectionism, and we are not, we will have to negotiate over the crumbs as to jobs. I am against it, dont get me wrong, but I believe that Obama knows this. We just dont know it yet. This is why I am so on fire over Bernie, we have to do DRASTIC overhauls of everything. |

9. She did that, doing her best to make sure that it prioritized labor and environmental standards.
Obviously, she wasn't the only party involved, and she hasn't been SoS for a while. And since the TPP isn't complete yet, it's not clear how much she succeeded, whether it turned into the landmark progressive trade agreement that she had been negotiating for.
