EXCLUSIVE: Wisconsin Dems furious with DNC for refusing to invest big money in Walker recall

EXCLUSIVE: Wisconsin Dems furious with DNC for refusing to invest big money in Walker recall
By Greg Sargent

...............................

The failure to put up the money Wisconsin Dems need to execute their recall plan comes at a time when the national Republican Party is sinking big money into defending Walker, raising fears that the DNC’s reluctance could help tip the race his way.

“We are frustrated by the lack of support from the Democratic National Committee and the Democratic Governors Association,” a top Wisconsin Democratic Party official tells me. “Scott Walker has the full support and backing of the Republican Party and all its tentacles. We are not getting similar support.”

“Considering that Scott Walker has already spent $30 million and we’re even in the polls, this is a winnable race,” the Wisconsin Dem continues. “We can get outspent two to one or five to one. We can’t get spent 20 to one.”

............

According to the Wisconsin Dem, the party has asked the DNC for $500,000 to help with its massive field operation. While the DNC has made generally supportive noises, the money has not been forthcoming, the official says — with less than a month until the June 5th recall election. The DNC did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

UPDATE: Wisconsin Democratic Party chair Mike Tate goes on record about the dispute in a statement:

“Having received absolute support from the Democratic Governors Association, we also are in conversation with the Democratic National Committee to help in this battle against Scott Walker, a right-wing diva who has the full backing of the national corporate Tea Party movement.”

he is saying the DGA IS helping, and the DNC is NOT helping.

The source is the OP, an update at the bottom. I'm guessing a lot of people questioned the unnamed source and so they decided to go on the record.

Somewhere, someone needs to be taken to task for their job killing, Anti-American policies. Republicans need to see that there are repercussions for their actions. This is as good a place as any to start.

For some reason Democrats just can't seem to see the "Big Picture"..It is obvious to me at least by the way they legislate...I am talking about National Democrats and not state level Democrats.. Wisconsin Democrats have gone way above and beyond for their beliefs while Federal Democrats can't seem to even tell what their beliefs actually are..

Wisconsin, a right-to-work state? Unimaginable! And then, the Wisconsin Democrats put up a fight like no one expected they would, including Walker. Can't leave them hanging.

We must throw out Walker on his butt. The results of this recall election will have far reaching impacts.

I ask because some people have made a point of telling us how they've cussed out some poor volunteer who called up to ask for money, for the DNC. They were sending their funds directly to the campaigns they chose.

So, if this story is true, I think the DNC is being setup to be scapegoated by party activists. Hope I'm wrong.

... ain't got it together.

I first got involved in fall of 2010, working for Russ Feingold. It was obvious from the start that, at my local level, there was infighting, ineptitude and ingrained thinking that was sinking the ship. The State Party was nowhere in sight.

I've seen nothing in the meantime to make me judge the Party more favorably. While there are well-intentioned People working in the Party, they have not been able to get us together.

I'm afraid we may squander this opportunity. We have 35,000 committed volunteers who have heard virtually nothing from the Party since the day the recall petitions were submitted.

their dramatic protest sparked the whole battle. They fled the state to protest the Walker move, and that got everyone out into the streets. I think they have some credibility on this.
