liberal Democratics predictably said they liked him more for it; and Independents either didn't care at all or split right down the middle

Bottom line? No real effect: folk that were against him are still against him, folk that were for him are still for him, and folk that were undecided are still mostly undecided, though small numbers moved equally into the for or against camp

It's pretty much a wash.

But if the wingnuts want to fire up the crazy megaphone on this, it has the effect of pushing people away from their position.
