Fortunately a quick-thinking lifeguard spots the commotion and blows her whistle before diving in the pool.
Using her lightening quick reflexes she manages to swim to the boy's aid within 10 seconds.
She quickly lifts the boy so his head and shoulders are out of the water and then she pats him on the back to ensure his lungs are clear.
Once the young boy has composed himself the lifeguard starts to swim over towards the side of the pool with the boy clinging on to a flotation device.
The man filming the footage can be heard saying to a member of pool staff: 'That was real.. I mean that was way out.. have you stopped it yet?'

OP
We should ALWAYS have life guards. It's being penny-wise and pound-foolish to eliminate them.

Drowning people don't yell and put their arms in the air. The arms stay under water or splash slightly, and they often stay upright until they go under. People who are drowning also can't control their bodies and make voluntary purposeful movements or actions such as yelling and waving.

(50,566 posts)5. I was gong to post that too.
This incident in the clip looked more like what people would expect in a drowning -- flailing arms and so forth, but that is not always the case.

I looked hard for someone who seemed to be in trouble, and did find them! Once when I was young, I was at a YWCA swimming pool and accidentally jumped into the deep end of the pool. I was panicked but was fortunate enough to be close to the sides and pulled myself out. You can bet that next Summer I took swimming lessons!
