The end of racism.

What are your thoughts on that? Will it ever be? If so, how?

For most of my life, I've heard this sort of sentiment: "One day, all the old racists will die out. Our young folks don't believe in that sort of thing, so in a few generations the last of our racists will be but a memory".

I think it's pretty clear that this won't be/isn't the case.

If that isn't how racism will finally peter out, how will it? I'll probably get flamed hard for this, but I never much bought into that line of reasoning. I'm of the belief that in some cases, racism manifests in individuals without the aid of a teacher. For whatever "reasons", normal, otherwise amiable people will in some cases find friction in their lives and choose to blame others for that friction. In the case of those who choose to blame groups based on their skin color, the result is a newly minted racist. No pedigree of racist old granddads handing down the family prejudice required. Just ad angst.

Now, I don't ask that any of you adopt this view, I've only offered it as one possible explanation, and as a reson for why I don't the the end coming about gradually as the old die off. Regardless of how racism originates, how do you see racism being eliminated in the future. Will it ever be? if so, what are your thought on eliminating/mitigating it? What can society do to bring the end once and for, if there is an end at all?

People are tribal at their core. It would take millions of years for everyone to mix to the point of homogeneity in genetic stock makeup.

From now until then, 2nd generation racial groups will emerge in areas in areas of encounters (Arab/asians from guest worker presence, whites/black/hispanics in the Americas, Africans/Asians from Chinese forays into Africa, etc, etc. I don't see those emerging groups losing their tribal nature and not resuming the cycle with new "racial" groups.

By the time full homogeneity is reached, I'd not be surprised if evolution has given us physical attributes to distinguish between ourselves once more.

I'm not sure why humans are this way.
I'm white, grew up moving every 3 months or so all over America. Daddy was an IBEW electrician.
There were times I was the only white kid with Native Americans and Hispanics, other times all white due to segregated schools.
I learned no matter what color the skin is people are people.
I've worked in Washington DC with all black fantastic coworkers.
I quit a job at a large Washington DC Hospital after the first day. I saw a xray coworker expose an elderly black man to total body radiation instead of just his chest on purpose.
All I can say is human suck!
The old Star Trek show with a world divided in prejudiced because one half of the population was black-and-white and the other half of the population was white and black. They were trying to kill each other off makes about as much sense as what's going on today and this freaking country.

I am not sure it is within our capability not to categorize/group people and make simplified assumptions about them. I think it's part of an evolved system for allowing us to make timely decisions. As such we may be only able to manage it but not eliminate it.
