Nine-year-old Josef Miles felt the urge to make his own counter-protest sign upon encountering protestors from the Westboro Baptist Church during Graduation Day activities Saturday on the Washburn University campus. Securing a small sketchpad and pencil from his mother, he created his own sign that read simply, "God Hates No One."

The way Patty Akrouche tells the story, her Mother’s Day gift arrived a day early Saturday when her young son mounted a quiet counter-protest to the pickets of the Westboro Baptist Church.

Nine-year-old Josef Miles and his mother were walking around the Washburn University campus Saturday, which was Graduation Day on campus. As they returned to the area where they had parked their car, they couldn’t help but notice the WBC protesters picketing in an area where they had an audience.

After reading WBC signs proclaiming God’s hatred for homosexuals and other assorted groups, Josef asked Akrouche if he could create his own sign proclaiming his different view of God’s outlook.

Looking at the WBC sign holder is a very interesting comparison of body language.

Is thinking "Yeah, kid, I know...you're right. I'm only holding this sign because my psycho family is MAKING me hold it".

He might even be getting up the courage to ask Josef if he could run away and come live with Josef and his mom.

We can pretty much assume that any Phelps child(for those who don't know, almost everybody in "Westboro Baptist" is actually a blood relative of Fred Phelps) is being abused in some horrid way or another.

If nothing else, it's at least a good sign that the WBC kid looks ashamed of what he's being made to do. Perhaps he can still be saved from that miserable family.

but aren't you projecting just a little declaring what the Westboro kid's body language says?

There is no indication from the picture that he is even aware that Josef is there. As you say, he could have been dtafted into this by his nutso family and is just bored - you know like a 12 year old sitting in left field playing with the grass during a softball game in gym class.

I mean, it is much more fun to speculate that he is embarrassed, but . . .

But I an looking at the totality. All the other WBs are heads up looking around, mostly away from what is going on here. This kid is head down, no defiant stare or looking into the distance pretending nothing is going on. He is resting his sign on the ground rather than using it a a 'you are not there' aid. other hand in the pocket... overall a very submissive posture.
It actually gives me hope. Maybe this is one who will break away from the hate when he reaches the age to make that happen.

Bikers ride to protect funerals and keep the shites away at funerals of fallen soldiers.

In one case, a group made giant stilts covered with white fabric that made them look like angels. The formed a large circle around a burial that protected the family.

This kid added his own brave touch.

They all are righteous.

I'm 47 years old. I am more proud of the upcoming generation than I have ever been of my own. Their openmindedness, love, compassion and tolerance brings tears to my eyes.
