Ok who took my avatar?

I got up this morning and my avatar is MIA. I have tried to restore it but I can't seem to upload it. The size has not changed and the number of megabytes are the same but it won't upload. Help I have sent a message to admin but it looks like they don't read those messages.

If you have some kind of mojo around here, please help.

20. It appears that 'upload.democraticunderground.com' is not responding.

The html code shows that everyone's avatar is loading from 'www.democraticunderground.com' except for the avatar of the person logged in, which is on 'upload.democraticunderground.com' - which seems to be offline.

So everyone should be able to see other member's avatars but quite possibly not their own (although they likely have a cached version their browser is using).

Strange symptom of 'upload.democraticunderground.com' not responding.

I've now got an image of an unavailable image, and 'view prof', showing where your avatar should be, even though yours shows fine when I'm viewing the thread (because there, the images are all without the host name, just relative to the main URL, which is 'www.democraticunderground.com/...'.

... to address the issue of custom avatars not showing up right away after being uploaded because browsers would serve up a cached 'www.democraticunderground.com' version of the previous avatar.

Although I may be misremembering how things were when there seemed to be a lot more issues with getting custom avatars to work.

Open this thread in another browser where you are not logged in to see everyone's avatars including your own.

The problem is that 'upload.democraticunderground.com' is offline. The avatar for the logged in account is loaded from that domain - everyone else's from the same domain you are viewing DU on (typically 'www.democraticunderground.com').

Once 'upload.democraticunderground.com' is back online things will go back to normal - no need to try to change or re-upload your avatar.

55. DU has been slower than cold molasses today.

I have had to hit reload on just about every thread I have clicked today. Half the signature pictures and some of people's avatars are not loading for me. As I type this, my status bar (I have my status bar at the bottom visible, old Netscape user here), is constantly going back and forth with Connecting to upload.democraticunderground.com...

I think it's just a high traffic day and DU is deciding that our beloved pets and other personal pictures are not worth loading. I blame GrovelBot. He's probably bored and decided to come out and have some fun messing with us today. It's not like he has anything else to do any more. What better time to sneak out of the Archives and wreak havoc?

On edit: For the record, I see a parrot as your avatar when I reload the page and catch that one break every few minutes that will let the page actually load for me today. Pages actually load off and on if I hit Reload often enough. Feels like Dialup, only nothing else is this damn slow in the internet for me. Just DU...
