The following ad recently ran in The Daily American Republican of Poplar Bluff in support of the "Don't Say Gay" bill:
As the late Christopher Hitchens might say, "Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence."
This ad is full of the former and bereft of the latter.
According to Fired Up! Missouri, the guy who ran it -- Hardy Billington -- is "a Baptist Deacon and state committeeman of the 25th Senatorial District as well as committeeman for the Butler County Republican Party."

(5,928 posts)10 to 30 years seems wayyyyyy too high, but I don't doubt that the stress of trying to cope with this pervasive hatred and homophobia can be harmful to the health of a gay person. I've read of studies citing the toll that racism can take on the health and lifespan of African-Americans.
The Magistrate
(95,244 posts)This is a claim loosely based on a survey of persons who sought services at a free clinic catering to homosexual men in San Francisco in the early days of the AIDS epidemic. Outcomes were not particularly good, and since then persons of malicious intent have pretended this represented a proper random scientific sample of all homosexuals.

"We are encouraging and affirming individuals into the "gay" lifestyle". If you give the kids birth control, you condone them having sex.

Obviously, since teaching contraception makes them want to have heterosexual sex then, boom, that will counteract the gay recruitment agenda.

(5,928 posts)It's something we see over and over again on DU. News is posted of someone doing something stupid, hateful, evil, or all of the above, and some of us jump to the conclusion that the person must be a self-hating, closeted gay. The effect of those words on readers may run counter to the poster's good intentions.

Did you hear that they officially had the ceremony placing Rush's bust in the state Capitol today? Not only that, but they only gave the media a 20 minute notice and refused admission to the public?

(5,928 posts)...of women 15 to 45. Had the good Deacon Billington lived in those times, I wonder if he would have screamed that "the heterosexual lifestyle is killing people!", and suggested that those who really love and care for heterosexuals should try to steer them away from that lifestyle.

(39,961 posts)Tell that to 80 year old lesbians and gay men. This kind of crap is so toxic, I don't even know what to say.
And I also agree with the sentiment that Hardy Billington gets caught with gay hooker in the next couple of weeks.
