With help from the International Action Center, the Committee to Stop FBI Repression posted a new on-line petition that sends messages directly to the offices of Los Angeles District Attorney Steve Cooley, U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder and President Obama. Please sign the petition at Defend Carlos Montes.

Carlos Montes urgently needs your solidarity! Please sign our petition hosted at the IAC site. Share it with your family, friends and co-workers. Signing the petition will generate a direct email to District Attorney Cooley, demanding he drop the charges against Carlos Montes.

Carlos Montes goes on trial Tuesday, May 15-22, 2012 because District Attorney Steve Cooley is moving forward with the FBI-initiated political prosecution against this long time veteran Chicano leader and anti-war, labor and immigrant rights activist.

Montes was arrested May 17, 2011, in a raid by the FBI and the L.A. Sheriffs as part of an investigation of “material support of terrorism” which has targeted 23 other anti-war and solidarity activists. Montes now faces 4 felony charges.

The outpouring of support has been overwhelming. The Committee to Stop FBI Repression asks that groups and individuals from the Los Angeles area join us at court May 15 through May 23, at 210 Temple Avenue in downtown Los Angeles.

They also ask that people around the country keep calling Los Angeles District Attorney Steve Cooley at 213-974-3512 to demand, “Stop the frame-up of Carlos Montes. Drop the charges now!”

Minneapolis, MN – About 25 people marched in the Minnesota Committee to Stop FBI Repression contingent in the annual Heart of the Beast Theater May Day parade here, May 13. The contingent passed out thousands of flyers educating the public about the upcoming trial of Carlos Montes and the attacks on the 23 Midwest activists who have been targeted by FBI and grand Jury repression. They asked people along the parade route to call the Los Angeles District Attorney Cooley to demand that he drop the charges against Carlos Montes. The crowd was receptive and supportive. The Minnesota Committee to Stop FBI Repression built for their picket in solidarity with Montes on the first day his trial, May 15, as well as to invite people to come to the protest against NATO next weekend in Chicago
