'THE LAST WORD' Repeat 1:00 AM ET tonight, Lawrence O'Donnell, MSNBC- white racism in the South,

history of the Confederate Battle Flag displayed, impact of Brown vs. the Board of Education (1954) and the revival of organized anti black activism and repression with panelists Eugene Robinson of South Carolina, Richard Cohen, President of the SPLC (Southern Poverty Law center), Mark Johnson, Janaii Nelson of the NAACP and Guy Uriel-Charles of Duke Law School. Excellent show covering a large period of white supremacist effort to control black civil rights in the 20th c. South.

the felt would be glory. We had a lot of the same join up for WWII, not understanding the politics of it all, just fighting for their country against the bad guys.

I can see many southerners and northerners that had ancestors that fought for the south, feeling some pride in knowing (they think) that their ancestor served honorably. Of course they are lucky if they know of any actual account of bravery under fire or heroic deeds. It could be they never fired a shot, marched around half starving and deserted. That happened a lot toward the end and they really couldn't be blamed for that.

I'm in Idaho and actually worked with a douchebag that bragged that he flew the Confederate flag at his house on evey Martin Luther King day. I think it was bullshit. He probably never really did that but would have if he ever worked long enough to afford one of those flags. He didn't last long. Idiots like that far outnumber the people that actually might have some justifiable pride in their ancestors service.
