(71,611 posts)... again a couple of years ago. (It's a habit I got in RVN.) Yeah. I went into the ER one Sunday evening after getting an infection from a boil on my leg. They told me I had a 78% chance of dying. Was under the knife within 3 hours and then in a medically-induced coma for three days, during a week in ICU. (I endorse Michael Jackson's choice of sedatives whole-heartedly. Propofol is amazing as a sedative and anaesthetic... lights out instantaneously and no drug hangover.) After 6 weeks in the hospital and several surgeries ... yeah, I was even part of the "show-and-tell tour" for all residents and interns ... I was given a reprieve and sent home with daily skilled nursing visits. After a couple of months, I was getting out and pissing people off again.
Nowadays I'm swimming laps three nights a week at my local high school (remembering my college days on the swimming team) and haven't felt better since I was in my 30s.
Welcome home, bro!

(22,271 posts)Absolutely one of my all-time favorite DUers. He could come into any thread and be the voice of reason in the middle of the most heated debates. When I was so broke there for a few years he used to buy me DU hearts in February. You've no idea how much that brightened my world at such a dismal time. I'll never forget him doing that for me.

(71,611 posts)You're so kind and generous ... and more than deserving of all the hearts entrusted to you, sweetheart.

(22,271 posts)OMG I've missed you so much! You have NO idea! This is me giving you a HUGE hug: {{{{{{{{{{{{}}}}}}}}}}
I hope all is well in your world and PLEASE consider posting in DU again. Your wisdom and humor is sorely needed now.

(71,611 posts)I've got a big, shit-eating grin on my face, sweetie. You sure know how to make a guy feel good. I miss hugging a lot. (The stick-up-the-butt Michiganders aren't into hugging much, and I've been permanently Californicated.)

(22,271 posts)WHAT THE HELL are you doing in Michigan? I hear it snows there. And people live in it. Every Californian knows that one goes and VISITS the snow, then one comes home. One doesn't actually LIVE IN the snow. Pffft!
(Dress 'em up, buy 'em books, send 'em to school and what the hell do they do? Go off and live in the snow.)

(71,611 posts)I've disabused myself of the notion that Hell is hot. No... Hell is in Michigan. (True, actually.) Anywhere water isn't suitable for swimming, boating, water-skiing, scuba-diving, and snorkeling ... where it's a solid and causes folks to slip and fall on their ass ... is Hell. Damn Persephone and her annual libidinous visits to Lucifer!!
Yes, I'm completely aware of the fact that snow should only be visited or viewed from poolside on mountain-tops. Or served in a cone with sweet syrup! Such a fact is obvious to anyone with a functioning brain and tanning genes. I should NOT be required to go out and freeze my aged ass off while pushing around some noisy snow-blower every blessed time the sky vomits on us here in Dumbfuckistan!
I EARNED the right to enjoy California! {sigh} and I miss it and my friends there terribly.
However... a fella's gotta do what a fella's gotta do. As an "only child" and 'conveniently single,' I had no conscionable choice other than to return and become an assisted-living caregiver for my mother who'd succumbed to the death of her fourth husband ... widowed a second time ... and could no longer live by herself safely. That was back in 2002-2003. She died in 2009 ... with nearly eight more years living with a quality of life that allowed her to do those things she enjoyed the most (except for drinking and sex). That pretty much put a lid on my aspirations to live in warm climes ... obliterating my already fragile financial condition. So, now I live each day counting my blessings ... grateful to be alive even after everyone in my family has died. Except for a few cousins with whom I've had little interaction in my life... and a half-sister who doesn't know me ... I look around wondering if my soul-mate will ever find me. I keep my eyes open and my family jewels polished.

(22,271 posts)for too long. I'm sending out vibes for a California soul mate to come your way so be ready.
And for the record, I can relate to your familial situation more than you know.

Sorry I didn't see it until today. I rarely check the "guestbook" since that webpage is a "blast from the past" ... an exercise in early web design back in 1993, along about the time I joined DU, as a matter of fact.
On edit: correction... I didn't join DU until about 2001-2002, about 6 months after it started. My brain-fart. Sorry. I did that website back in 1993, on AOL as soon as they opened up to the Internet. So, it was one of the first personal web pages on the Internet at the time... and it reflects the "state-of-the-art" back then.
Your sleuthing skills found me out. Yes, the twitter account and Gmail accounts are both mine as well. (Of course, in disclosing that I've also pretty much exposed my secret identity as well.)

(71,611 posts)You're playing with fire, kiddo. I've had a crush on you since the first time we chatted... back just before your "troubles" came to a head. Yes... deal with it.

(113,039 posts)I steer clear of 'trouble' because I learned long ago it tends to be boring in the long term.

(71,611 posts)... he died of orgasmic bliss in the arms of some supermodel (Chelsea Handler?) after a Free The Nipple (#FreeTheNipple) protest event in which he participated. His talented mouth (and abundant supply of sunscreen) were, it's claimed, in unprecedented demand at the protest event.
