In another year, Martin OMalley would look like a front-runner for president of the United States.
Hes a photogenic former governor of an influential state, Maryland, and boasts a record of progressive achievements that should thrill grassroots Democrats. At age 52, hes old enough to command some gravitas and young enough to look like a candidate of tomorrow. He even plays a mean guitar.
But Mr. OMalley, as of right now, is not being taken seriously. Hillary Clinton, the former secretary of state, is the juggernaut of 2016. Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, an independent who calls himself a socialist, is electrifying liberals in Iowa and New Hampshire who are sick of the Clinton dynasty. Much of the chattering class thinks theres simply no oxygen left for the nice-looking guy from Maryland.
Unsurprisingly, the OMalley camp is dismissive of such talk. And theyre convinced Mr. OMalley is exactly where he needs to be, even if hes garnering single-digit support in national and early voting state polls.

(30,481 posts)We only have one candidate really polling well across the board. All others are so far behind that I don't think the low numbers are the greatest concern. Nationally, and in many caucus states, there isn't all that much difference in the comparison of Sanders to Hillary, and O'Malley to Sanders. I see Sanders and O'Malley campaigning every day. Sanders isn't giving up for good reason. Neither is O'Malley. They both know this will change dramatically.
Hillary is currently fifty points ahead of Sanders. Compare that to Sanders being only nine points ahead of O'Malley.

(18,115 posts)She's going to avoid the primary at all costs. Avoid taking positions, committing or treating her opponents as equals.

(3,533 posts)So HRC"s non-involvement thru her evolvement makes her only a Champion of Wall Street?
Why doesn't she care about the People?

(30,481 posts)I say Clinton doesn't want to comment on the TPP and that is just as good as her supporting it and your reply is....
"Just because you say it, doesn't make it true"
That simply doesn't make any sense.
"Why doesn't she care about the People?"
I don't know how to reply to such a foolish comment. Have a good day.

(30,481 posts)I wish you would think this through before hitting post. It simply make no sense. I don't see how you can argue against an agreement. It is a special trait.

(26,665 posts)No opinion on Webb, and I will vote in the General for Hillary if I have to, but I refuse to be part of a coronation. If it is HRC alone on the ballot for my primary, there is no sense even wasting my time on the inevitable win. Call me in November.

(47,626 posts)If O'Malley can energize enough voters to get the nomination, he'll have tremendous coattails. Look at how much ground he has to make up to take the lead.
