There is no way Obama will win if gas prices stay this high

4.47 for regular is crazy. It may be nothing he can do about it, but he'll definitely get a lot of blame. It's just depressing going to the gas station.

Didn't Axelrod say oil was down?

Gas dropped from $3.81 to $3.52, in a week and a half where I am. And the experts predict they'll continue to drop, gradually, because of decreased demand.

Because whether you are or not you have every appearance of being a RW concern troll.

There are only two places in the US where the average price of regular gas is anywhere even approaching 4.47. Alaska and Hawaii. (Obama will lose Alaska no matter what, and win Hawaii no matter what.)

So it appears you are exaggerating, which suggests a motive to do so.

The national average for a gallon of self-serve regular is 3.73

The state average for California this week is $4.36 and there are probably in-state regions seeing higher.

I read that there is some kind of west caost refinery bullshit going on.

Tue May 15, 2012, 02:10 PM

Refinery problems were the major cause of the supply problem on the West Coast, analysts said. California once had as many as 14 refineries producing the state's expensive blend of gasoline. But in recent years, the number has dropped to 12, according to the state Energy Commission.

Now, four of those refineries are shut temporarily, mostly because of maintenance.

As if that wasn't bad enough, BP is still struggling to reopen its Cherry Point refinery in Washington, where a fire caused a shutdown that began in March. That has forced some Washington gasoline suppliers to look toward California's limited fuel stocks to buy gasoline until Cherry Point refinery production is brought back online.

It went from $3.79/gal for regular to $3.43/gal, and that's out here in the sticks. I was in Chattanooga the other day and saw one station where it was $3.36/gal...

Several months ago it dropped like that, and I actually bought some for $2.95/gal. I hope it keeps going down, too...
