PHOENIX - Hillary Rodham Clinton is not expected to appear at Netroots Nation, an annual convention of liberal activists and bloggers who are often courted by Democratic presidential candidates.
Organizers of the event say Democratic presidential candidates Bernie Sanders and Martin O'Malley have confirmed to appear at the mid-July conference in Phoenix.
Clinton's campaign is citing a scheduling conflict for her absence, saying the Democratic front-runner is already scheduled to speak in Iowa and Arkansas that weekend.
About 3,000 activists are planning to attend the convention, which will also feature Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren, who many liberals had hoped would challenge Clinton in the 2016 Democratic presidential primaries.

As evidenced by the fact they're holding it in Phoenix, AZ despite the boycott of that state due to its racist anti-immigrant laws.
I'm sure Joe Arpaio will be happy to see them though.
Note that the founder of Netroots Nation, Markos from Daily Kos, is skipping the event, as is the entire staff of Daily Kos.

(1,893 posts)...netroots has had their schedule since last July, was Hillary's campaign decided not to go and planned other events instead.
Likely strategy is Hillary attending would only give both O'Malley and Sanders increased exposure.
but two big risks:
1. People accusing her of being afraid
2. People accusing her of hiding from the issues
Her team has to make that a big news weekend for her

(146,286 posts)OTOH, she wouldn't have gotten those votes anyhow. She'll probably be appearing somewhere else that day. Netroots Nation isn't likely to be a hotbed of Hillary supporters, I'd guess.
