Diablo 3 launch marred by errors
have been waiting 12 long years for Diablo 3, an action role playing/dungeon crawling videogame that launched at midnight Monday, but many are finding they must wait longer to actually play it.
As the estimated two million customers who preordered the game got their copies, servers overloaded and collapsed, causing many players to be confronted with a note saying: "The servers are busy at this time. Please try again later. (Error 37)" That phrase quickly began to trend worldwide on Twitter as frustrated players couldnt get the game started.
Blizzard, the company who developed the game (who also makes World of Warcraft), is taking a fair bit of flack for the error, because even the games single player campaign requires an always on Internet connection.
A connection is obviously necessary for multiplayer, but being always connected is a growing trend among game manufacturers, with oft-cited reasons such as controlling piracy and trying to keep a handle on cheaters. This is particularly important for Diablo as one new addition includes an in-game eBay-like auction service where players can sell items to each other for cash.

It truly sucked. I gave up at 5:30 AM and went to bed, never to get in.
