In the past few weeks I keep hearing conservatives say that gasoline prices reached 4.00/gal for the first time under the Obama administration. It is an out and out LIE but I have yet to hear anyone (cable news, MSNBC even) correct the lying bastards who spew this crap. And the thing is, I've now heard it go unquestioned enough that I was actually beginning to doubt my own memory. So I've looked into it.
From June of 2008, when gasoline prices first hit the $4.00 mark under the Bush administration:
Gas price record reaches $4 a gallon
"AAA's daily survey tops the milestone for the first time after a 1.7-cent rise. Lundberg survey nears $4 as well." ...more
$4 per Gallon Gas Prices Affecting Entire Nation
"The average cost of a gallon of gas in the U.S. crossed the $4 threshold for the first time over the weekend." ...more
April 07, 2012:
A lot less fuming at the gas pump this time
"People aren't nearly as angry over prices as they were in '08, for several reasons."
"Gas prices have soared about 15% in the last six months, hitting $3.94 a gallon on average nationwide, and $4.29 in California."
"The mood of motorists? Meh." ...more
I haven't been reading or posting as much lately as I am in the middle of a move so perhaps I missed the discussion here? Has it already become a standing republican
Tell a lie often enough and it becomes the truth...

(35,392 posts)it was hit before ... that's why they were screaming (in 2009) about the idea that gas would hit FIVE DOLLARS A GALLON under Obama.
Don't believe that the "sting" is muted?
How many "threshholds" has the Dow passed through under Obama in the Dow's climb back to where it was? How come it's not so much "news" when the Dow passes a mark with three zeros on the right side?
It's been done before. The "liberally-biased media" might wake up when the Dow is nearing 15K. Or maybe when the NASDAQ clears 5000 again. But only MAYBE.
But $4/gallon still hits ya ...
