1. I think the reporter must have misunderstood whatever the rescuer actually said

The puppy was dropped on Sunday and first opened his eyes on Tuesday. Either he was unable to open his eyes before then due to injuries/shock from the fall, or he is literally opening them for the first time in his life.

The rescuer has dogs, cats, horses and hawks, so presumably knows enough about dogs to know that they open their eyes long before they turn 8 weeks.

4. Also the puppy didn't have any baby teeth yet. Puppies can be weaned at six to eight

weeks. This puppy wasn't anywhere near to weaning age.
