WATCH: Rep. Luis Gutiérrez Brilliantly Shut Down Ann Coulter on Immigration

Rep. Luis Gutiérrez, a Democrat from Illinois, brilliantly shut down anti-immigrant activist and Adios, America author Ann Coulter during an episode of Real Time with Bill Maher last week.

Coulter, unsurprisingly, had just declared that immigrants are criminals, terrorists and welfare-suckers. Gutiérrez completely shut her down, much to the delight of the audience.

"Worry about the 50 million Latinos in the United States of America that are here legally. Worry about that 50 million, who care and who care deeply, because of many of the people who you refer to as murderers and rapists and criminals and people that are on welfare are their aunts, their uncles, their classmates, their work with them," he said. "These are people they care about."

"So, what I think that Ann Coulter is actually doing — along with Donald Trump — is that they're just revving up. You know, it's like a Latino registration machine. Because every time they say these things — I say this quite seriously — a million Latinos turn 18 every year in the United States Of America. And Ann, they're all American citizens of the United States. And here's what happens: they become the basis of the new American political coalition. That is young people, that is Latinos, that is immigrants, it's African Americans, it's Asians, it's gay people, it's people that care about the economy, and it's people that care about the environment. Ann, look: you're never going to take the White House with this kind of politics ever again, because there's a new American politics."

2. Not that Coulter cares about taking the White House; it's about selling her books to bigots

and getting appearance fees from far right gatherings. And maybe a certain amount of narcissism that just wants to get talked about, but that's hard to distinguish from the urge to pander to, and get paid by, racists, misogynists and anyone else in the hate community.

One of this countries best progressive voices leading the charge on compassionate immigration reform. And this is what makes you think he isn't a complete waste of oxygen? Really shows your thoughts on the progressive side of one of the most important issues of the day. He isn't a waste of oxygen to anyone with progressive leanings. Sorry that a comment or two stands between you and your ability to show any compassion or in supporting a great progressive that is leading our party on such a serious issue. Although, the mindset doesn't surprise me here anymore.
