Tear me to shreds. I stand by my claim.

(2,518 posts)I started an OP about my experiences as a poly person.

Now, I suppose, it's because of white privilege?
And I am white, but what about my bestie who is black poly person?
I guess he just doesn't count.

We certainly do like to maintain that pretense... along with many other allegations.

(2,518 posts)...this OP appeared a couple of minutes after the poster angrily replied to my poly thread.
Maybe it wasn't "because of me," but the timing is curious.

(16,286 posts)Str8t privilege might be better here.
As a str8t person, especially white, when I walk out of my house in the morning I dont have to worry about being discriminated against in applying for a job (unless maybe I have noticeable tats or long hair) and I wont have to worry about not getting that apartment (unless, again, I have tats or long hair, maybe).
Or the loan at the bank, and yet again here too if I have tats or long hair or both, maybe I will be discriminated against.
You see it is all about what color skin you have, what is on that skin, or who you love, when it comes to the bigots.
Now a white person with tats or long hair is still VASTLY privileged over POC, and Gay folks, but I point it out because when it comes to the childish bigot fucks, they are so shallow they can turn on you over the simplest shit.

(13,340 posts)I couldn't give less of crap about poly marriage one way or another, but your statement is ridiculous.
Poly marriage is not the same as same sex marriage in any sense. But I can't see how poly people wanted some recognition for their relationships is because of white privilege.

(1,883 posts)You wouldn't even go there. It's not about how many black or brown people you can count. Please read something.

(13,340 posts)I am in an monogamous marriage, and don't care about poly marriages at all. But I do not see how polys wanted to discuss their deal is somehow "white privilege." I have no problem with folks who think they are being treated unjustly bringing it up. Doesn't me they'll convince it's an issue we need to spend political capital fixing, though. And right now, I don't think it is. But white privilege? The only poly relationship I am personally familiar with is 2 black women and Peurto Rican dude.

(1,883 posts)You are taking all this time and effort to address something that has nothing to do with you at all. You actually don't even support changing the laws. You felt the need to do actual research, not because you are even remotely interested in the issue but because you just had to have your say about race. Oh, and by the way, this has nothing to do with how many black and/or brown people you may or may not know.

(951 posts)No way. A relationship between two people is great, but the addition of a third person, of course, causes any male in that relationship to immediately and violently establish physical control over the women, and of course all of the participants start dressing like fundamentalist Mormons.

(3,433 posts)This will be my last response to these ridiculous polyamory/polygamy rants. Most of these posts are designed to create arguments. Until today all of the arguments have been virtually identical to the arguments used by those against same sex marriage. They simply swap samesex with polygamy. Today I have seen this and another which stated polygamy = rape. Facts do not matter to these people. They feel their way through their arguments and where they are desperate to prove their point, they cherry pick "facts" to bolster their claim. Their opinions are predetermined and nothing will ever change their mind because they are morally superior on this issue. They have a drive to white knight women in polygamous relationships because they believe all women in those relationships are abused. They only see the issue as related to Mormonism even though the sects which promote polygamy are a small percentage of the entire mormon religion. It doesn't matter that some women chose to enter into poly relationships and are quite happy. These people will never believe that to be true. Notice that they deflect and engage in misdirection when someone discusses cultures other than ours where polygamy is accpeted or if homosexuals or bisexuals may chose to enter into poly relationships. They don't care because they have a myopic point of view. This is my last comment on this matter. its pointless. Flame on.
