Romney doesn't want answer any more questions to reporters about his time at Bain? Must be because the campaign doesn't have any coherent answers to feed him on this issue.
That was all it took. One Bain ad. First person ads like the Bain ad appear to be very effective.
I say keep the ads coming. Every time he opens his mouth run another one. We have found this guys glass jaw real early.
Let them cry about it.

(53,410 posts)They're doing a strategic withdrawal, desperately trying to come up with a game plan to control the message again. They don't realize Obama's people have learned from the past. This is usually referred to as fighting fire with fire. Something many Democrats don't seem to realize is what's happening.
Tweety likes to say it's similar to the "swiftboating of Kerry". I think he's wrong because the swiftboating tactic was to take Kerry's strengths and attacking them with lies. Obama's campaign is attacking Romney with the truth. That's very different.

lunatica
(53,410 posts)The term 'swiftboatinging' is the use of deliberate lies to discredit a real strength, not a perceived one. Kerry fought in a war where he was wounded in the line of duty and he was a strong leader. Romney is a sociopath user who ruins lives for self aggrandizement and wealth. Both of them came from affluence and wealth and yet one serves the public and the other uses it for personal gain.
My argument is about the use of the word swiftboating which is very specific. The Obama campaign is not creating lies to discredit Romney. They are using the truth no matter how much you squint and turn your head just so to distort. They are not using Rovian tactics. But they are attacking Romney's much vaunted claim to be a job creator, when in fact he isn't. He's a jobs destroyer.

This is highlighting the VERY TRUTH of what Romney did.
There is no comparison.

(12,233 posts)Republicans don't like Mitt Romney. He's unnatural. He's a sociopath. He's the complete reminder to the country of what the 99% perceive the 1% elite to be. A person who comes from wealth... He started out on 3rd base, while the rest of us all start off at the home plate trying to hit a fast ball pitched at us going 99 mph; just hoping we can hit the damn thing and run fast enough to get to 1st base.
His father was a wealthy CEO who ended up in a Governor mansion. Mitt went to the elite private schools and private Universities. His and his wife's "struggling years" were living in a small apartment, cashing in stock presents to live. They finally bought a home in the areas and when they sold their home, they made money off of it (BTW this home was a "loan" or "gift" by Daddy). Ann, herself, came from enough money to attend the private sister school for girls where she met Mitt.
All the stories that are meant to be personal, anecdotal humanizing stories about Mitt and his family, feel canned and still out of touch. Using Ann as his "go to" on the issues facing the modern woman: women who are struggling in jobs (often lower paying jobs than men), juggling time with children and their significant other (if that significant other is still in the picture), and finding time to have some semblance of a life (you know that moment where you can find a little bit of peace and quiet). Ann isn't exactly the person one would think you could honestly find that advice from, seeing that most of her life she had staff to help her out in her many homes and that her moments of peace and quiet were with top of the line bread horses she could do her "dressage" thing with.
His younger, "wild" years at the private school have turned into horror stories of a bully who made his way through that time by cruelly subjecting other people's weaknesses into the butt of a joke... Attacking a student who was different with a posse and a pair of scissors... Walking the poor nearly blind teacher into a door... Using police props on his car to stop and harass girls driving home to their boarding school before curfew would cause them expulsion. These aren't "wild" anecdotes, they are sick, twisted forms of cruelty and bullying.
Even that family story of the vacation to their Canadian cabin in the station wagon with the poor, sick dog Seamus strapped to the top of the roof for 12 hours... even being subjected to a hosing down after he made a mess of the roof of the car and himself. Seeing how Mitt's hair cannot be out of place, I'm sure Mitt was more worried about the appearance of driving down the road with dog shit running down the sides of it than the fact that the dog was sick.
He protested FOR the Vietnam war, and then spent time in France as a missionary to avoid having to serve in the very war he supported. France, the place that Bush turned into our "enemy" for not supporting his war of terror on the Iraqi people. Freedom Fries, renamed in the Congressional Cafeteria because "french" fries were such a vile concept. Now, France is a wonderful place and Paris is a magical, wonderful vacation spot that everyone should have a chance to visit and take in its splendor... You know all the people his company Bain Capital, would come through and pillage and leave unemployed, poor people behind without a second thought.
And speaking of Bain, that was his pride and joy and reason he was sooo qualified to lead our country. He created so many, many jobs while he worked there. Now, he's had to modify that lie to thousands; and no mention of how those thousands are now working for less pay, with less benefits, and with pensions eroded after Mitt and the company came in and stripped all of the company's value and stuck it in their own private bank accounts in the Caymen Islands and Swiss Banks.
What is likable or electable about this jack ass? The more people get a chance to hear, see, or read a few stories, they find him disgusting. Sarah Palin probably has a higher likability factor than Mitt Romney does... and she's a walking, talking moron.
But, of course, the corporate media conglomerates want a piece of campaign cash pie... This Presidential race alone is expected to be reaching into the billion dollar range, not to mention all the money that will be flooding into local and state markets for Senate and House seats. Its the media's job to keep the race looking tight and close and fudge around with those numbers that the polls indicate and create the excitement and need for commercials to appear across all the media conglomerate's multiple network markets... Its only June now, and its looking rather bad for old Mitt. He's talking already about getting us into another war (Iran), and most of the country wants us out of all wars all together. The public would rather have new text books for classes, roads and bridges that aren't crumbling, and an actual plan that will help Americans out of the Depression we in the real America are still feeling... You know, jobs that actually pay a living wage, affordable health care (most would actually prefer a medicare for all type of system and leave the middle men private insurance company vultures out of their pockets completely), an actual real plan to get the housing issue dealt with in a fair manner... not just more laws that help out the banksters over people)... Mitt is the reminder of what went wrong during the Bush years, and he's one of those who did work hard at Bain to actually screw people over to fatten his own pocket, while paying a measly 13% in taxes.

(13,776 posts)I'm so naive that I always forget that the media wants this to be a close horse race so they can get lots and lots of advertising dollars. D'oh! Instead I fret about any indication that somebody, somewhere, might like Mitt Romney--as if the MSM had nothing to do with it. But the rest of your post makes me feel much better--and all of Mitt's negatives are going to be super easy for our side to explain to a public that's barely getting by and scared of losing, or never getting, a job.
Very well explained!

Generic Other
(28,979 posts)..."bane" was once a very serious word. The Old English "bana" meant
literally "slayer" in the sense we now use "killer" or "murderer."
Early on, the English "bane" was also used in the more general sense
of "cause of death," and by the 14th century "bane" was used in the
specialized sense of "poison," a sense which lives on in the names of
various poisonous plants such as "henbane" and "wolfbane."
From this very literal "something that kills you" usage, "bane" by the
16th century had broadened into its modern meaning of "something that
makes life unpleasant, a curse."

Cosmocat
(14,563 posts)the "business guy" to run in what they have VERY effectively portrayed as a HORRIBLE economy.
They get to define the playing field, in extreme, however they want to.
For 6 years after 9-11, when the country's economy with the help or corporatist run admin and congress were laying the ground work and creating the massive debt we now see, EVERY ELECTION was about SECURITY.
That all came to an abrubt and total end in January of 2009.
Now, the president who actually HAS kept us "safe" and is doing a MUCH better job on them there terrorists, they NOW want to scream about the debt THEY created.
And, the hue and cry of how HORRIBLE the economy is compares very much to the fear the generated over 9-11. We had to deal with radical terrorists, but it was always way over stated for political reasons. Same now with the economy. Times are tough, a lot of people are struggling, but they and the 'liberal media" continue to portray things like it's the great depression.

(33,224 posts)In this case, Romney is making it easy because he's bragging about his business acumen as somehow useful to a president, when the opposite is true. His business success was facilitated by being a completely amoral mercenary - exactly the kind of personality traits that you don't want in an elected representative.
They're making it easy. The traits that the opponent thinks are strengths are actually vulnerabilities.
