PRINCETON, N.J. -- Shortly after the Supreme Court in late June turned back a second legal challenge to the 2010 Affordable Care Act, Americans' approval of the law rose to 47%, the highest level since 2012. Still, Americans are as likely to disapprove as to approve of the law.

"But approval of the law has now increased 10 percentage points in two subsequent polls, rising to 44% in April and now 47% after the court's decision.
Since November, approval of the ACA has increased among all key demographic groups, with the changes for each group generally within a few points of the overall 10-point increase."

(18,402 posts)is that they are measuring the opinions of mostly people who do not use the ACA.
Looking at a chart of insurance by type made in 2013, around 80% of US citizens were (are) insured through their employment or through Medicare or Medicaid (see http://kff.org/other/state-indicator/total-population/ ). So really, only about 20% of Americans have a "real" and tangible interest in the ACA: those under age 65 who do not get employer based insurance or who make too much to qualify for Medicaid.
To me, the 48/47 split on approval looks more like the usual partisan divide on every issue in this country than a real assessment of the ACA. For that, I'd rather see a poll measuring the favorability by people who are actually using the ACA.

(25,111 posts)Far from perfection, but its a start. Maybe one day, universal healthcare for all Americans no matter your status.
GOPers still use Obamacare as a negative narrative. Dems use Obamacare and ACA as a positive narrative. The corporate media goes back and forth. One day ACA will be used inclusively because GOPers will claim it as their success story.
