http://www.salon.com/2015/07/14/paul_krugman_throws_down_gop_base_loves_trump_because_hes_a_belligerent_loudmouthed_racist_just_like_them/snip:
New York Times columnist Paul Krugman appeared on Bloomberg Television Monday to discuss the appeal of Donald Trump to Republicans, and the Princeton economist pulled no punches.
Hes a belligerent, loudmouthed racist with not an ounce of compassion for less fortunate people, Krugman argued. In other words, hes exactly the kind of person the Republican base consists of and identifies with.
Its clear that the very things that Upper West Side New Yorkers find detestable about him are exactly what endear him to the Republican base, he continued. Which is basically people who see in him everything even the big red face and the yelling that makes him their kind of guy.
The next sound you hear is the detonation of Reich Wing heads throughout the land. Lovely.

(1,074 posts)I kept thinking to myself whenever the media was saying that Trump is almost #1 among the Republicans, I felt they were implying "wow, Trump really must have something if he's moving to the #1 spot." But, my thought was always that it doesn't say anything about Trump, but says everything about who these Republicans are! Anyone who is a Republican should be embarrassed that Trump is moving to the #1 spot! It's just like with Palin - it should be an embarrassment to the Republicans that so many of them loved her! It all just reflects on what kind of people the Republicans really are!

(56,828 posts)right wing heads won't be exploding because in their insular little world, they won't be reading an "out of touch intellectual elitist" like Paul Krugman. I think there are Tea Party bylaws that say if you read Paul Krugman or watch Rachel Maddow, you are required to turn in your membership card.

(9,497 posts)How many who are against the Big Banks are for him. In my circle of people, I have Bernie supporters and Trump supporters. The only items those two men share in common is that they tell it like they see it.
This may be the real issue here. A lot of people don't want canned responses and memes.
And a lot of people are anti-Mexican. And afraid of losing more

isn't it sweet, sweet karma that the 30 years of republicans promoting mindless, lockstep hatred through their media monopoly is finally biting them in the appropriate parts? The truth will out and that is why we love democracy so. It's slow, but it sure is going to be a pleasure to watch.

At a 4th of July party at a friend's house, her reichwing brother-in-law and his brother were telling anyone who'd listen that Trump is their guy because he wants to keep "illegals" out. Those two, by the way, are offspring of immigrants from Eastern Europe.

(430 posts)he is so often exactly correct. This does not play well with the media or the public. Being continuously right does not sway people. People would rather ignore such a person, than to admit they are wrong. Having the right answer should end the conversation/controversy, the media does not want an end.
Here is a contrary example---when does Dick Cheney not get a microphone, and an amen corner?

Nevertheless, it is imperative, absolutely critical, that we prevent them from holding any positions of power.
