Everyone's saying 34 will stop a no vote on the historic Iran deal to uphold a veto. First things first - after the obvious - Republicans will all vote against, they'll need 60 to get it out of the Senate.
Stop it there, and maybe a veto won't be necessary.
So Schumer, among others really need their arms twisted to hold 41 votes.
But I'm of the opinion that even given the worst, overridden in both Houses, Obama should then defy Congress, with US sanctions the only ones left, and hope Iran still holds up their end of the deal.
We don't trade much with Iran anyway, and UN sanctions are gone now, let's not kid ourselves.
Let Lindsey Graham sing "Give War a Chance" and realize it's an executive agreement, not a treaty, repeat not a treaty.

(98,883 posts)making it "veto" proof the President doesn't have to do anything. The sanctions will go away from the others that were party to the deal, and if the U.S. continues the sanctions, they will be ineffective, and baring the U.S. invading Iran, they can turn blue in the face
However, I don't believe they will be able to override a veto, and this will be a moot point
