The incident touched off about 3:38 a.m. inside Danny's Midnight Confessions at 133 S. 13th St. in Center City.
A man walked in, looked around, and made "a negative remark" about the gay merchandise for sale, police said.
He exited but soon returned, inquiring about straight adult entertainment. As an employee was directing him toward some DVDs he'd requested, the man pulled out a silver revolver, and a struggle ensued, police said.

(38,187 posts)If not, they should charge this jerk with a hate crime. If so, well, we see what they are doing with those "religious" exception/exemption/protection type laws. They are excusing shit like this as a "religious" belief thing. That is their entire purpose. They enact those types of laws to keep any kind of hate crimes laws or civil rights protection laws from being enforced.
I think they should charge the guy with a hate crime. It doesn't matter if the worker is gay or not. It fully appears that it was anti-gay hatred that caused the other guy to decide to shoot him.

The American Federation of State County and Municipal Employees Iowa Council 61 President Danny Homan said Monday that they filed suit in Polk County District Court against Branstad and Department of Human Services Director Charles Palmer.
They said the lawsuit seeks to compel the governor and his administration to comply with Iowa law and reopen the Mt. Pleasant and Clarinda Mental Health Institutes.
Iowa law clearly states that the State of Iowa shall operate Mental Health Institutes in Mt. Pleasant and Clarinda, state AFSCME President Danny Homan said in a press release. This was the law when the governor announced his decision to close these facilities. This was the law when the legislature passed, with bipartisan support, the funding to keep these facilities open. This was the law when he closed these two facilities. It is still the law today.
