He knew that we need to be united to overcome the many societal problems that affect all of us, but especially affect black Americans and not just try to say nothing else is important. That is why we have a holiday celebrating that great man! He knew that we needed unity to fix the problems we face today and he helped us all in so many ways then, even if his life was shortened too much!

In the real world, Clinton is ahead by 30-40 points. That margin is largely made up by her big margins amongst Latinos and African-Americans.

Posts like this do not help that dynamic.

Protesting Bernie, while he was discussing the very thing they were protesting to bring awareness to....makes no sense.

Obama, on the other hand, is still in office and can do something to prevent more killings of innocent black people by racist cops.

I would very much like to stop hearing about innocent people being brutalized by cops with no accountability.

Stopping Obama from pursuing the TPP would save jobs for African Americans.

That would be helpful.

Sanders and O'Malley are campaigning for the job. If one of them gets it, there is a chance they will hold it for eight years.

one who could possible be President for the next eight years, would be protested. I get that you could do it better. What you can't do is sit here and act like you just can't get it. The line you are holding is not believable. Do you seriously not know that members of the black community have been lobbying Obama since before he was in office.

Two guys looking to be President for the next eight years and you can't figure out why this group would go to them. That is not a believable position to hold. Not buying it.

I understand your frustration, but please avoid the semblance of deciding FOR people of colour what they should be outraged about. Take their word for it. A lot of their frustration comes from a feeling of not being heard. An OP like this can only exacerbate that feeling.

21. The first person they protested on that stage was O'Malley. When he was Mayor of Baltimore
Mon Jul 20, 2015, 02:55 PM
Jul 2015

he sponsored a get tough on crime program that put many AA in jail for minor crimes.

Sanders followed O'Malley, and unfortunately his first reaction to the protesters was to threaten to leave the stage.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/local/dc-politics/as-mayor-of-baltimore-omalleys-policing-strategy-sowed-mistrust/2015/04/25/af81178a-ea9d-11e4-9767-6276fc9b0ada_story.html

It was as a crime-busting mayor some 15 years ago that O’Malley first gained national attention. Although he is positioning himself as a progressive alternative to Hillary Clinton, O’Malley also touts a police crackdown during his time as mayor that led to a stark reduction in drug violence and homicides as one of his major achievements.

Yet some civic leaders and community activists in Baltimore portray O’Malley’s policing policies in troubling terms. The say the “zero-tolerance” approach mistreated young black men even as it helped dramatically reduce crime, fueling a deep mistrust of law enforcement that flared anew last week when Gray died after suffering a spinal injury while in police custody.

Police in Baltimore — like their counterparts elsewhere — have had strained relations with African Americans for generations. But community leaders say the relationship reached a nadir during O’Malley’s tenure, thanks to a policing strategy that resulted in tens of thousands of arrests for minor offenses such as loitering and littering.

Although prosecutors declined to bring many of the cases, activists contend that those who were arrested often could not get their records expunged, making it harder for them to get jobs.

We live in a federation where the states and cities have near autonomous powers in certain areas of the law.

The real problem is that neither Obama nor Bernie, if he were president, can fix local problems. They can try, but have very limited authority to do so.

The Fair Sentencing Act.

Retroactivity for the Fair Sentencing Act.

Asking drug war prisoners to seek sentence commutations, and then beginning to grant them.

Laying off marijuana in states where it is legal.

All of these things are a huge benefit to the black community.

The fact that all of you are just hearing about their activities show how much you even pay attention to this issue. BLM HAS protested Obama. FFS. Even run a google before posting this crap?

http://thinkprogress.org/election/2015/03/07/3631178/black-lives-matter-protesters-interrupt-obama-selma/

Follow some Black people on twitter, for cripes sake, before any of you keep crying your eyes about in concern about what Black people should care about.

I'm sure they will protest Hillary, and the Republicans, and several others as the year goes by. It's a direct action movement.
