I was driving home the other day and saw a bumper sticker that read "Silly Liberals, paychecks are for workers"
At first I honestly didn't get it. I was a liberal driving home from WORK just like the other driver that must have thought themselves so clever. Other conservatives I know have started offering up such election season gems as McObama's where you order and the guy behind you pays etc...
The thing is almost every liberals I know works. Those that don't work wish they could work. Every study I've seen shows Americans are among the most work oriented people on the planet. They take less vacation on average, they work longer hours, they are willing to commute longer distances, etc.. It is pure fantasy to think liberals don't want to work, are lazy and just want social systems for a free ride.
But the worst part is most of the bumper sticker is a true statement. Paychecks are for workers. Look no farther than Presidential want to be Mitt Romney. Romney makes more money in a day than that likely that person driving home on the road with me. He doesn't make it with a paycheck. No, over the past 30-40 years the Romney's of the country have games the financial system to pay themselves more and more and us the workers less and less. Once you understand that despite generating higher and higher GDP, the Romney's of the world gain while your paycheck stays the same or goes down, then you start to be a liberal.
There's nothing silly about it. Liberals get it, in America paychecks are for the working class. Once you get that too you stop being an idiot with a stupid conformist bumper sticker on your car.

(48,217 posts)They believe that Mark Dayton narrowly won the Minnesota governorship because "all the illegal immigrants and people on welfare voted for him. People with jobs voted for Emmer." Yo, are 51% of the adults in Minnesota illegal immigrants or welfare recipients?
They also believe that government employees contribute nothing to the economy and just "mooch off the taxpayers." Do they really believe that government employees don't buy anything in the private sector? (Oh, there are government employees who have the option of buying only in government-owned stores: they're called "military personnel." But military personnel are automatically good in the right-wing mind, just as military spending somehow doesn't contribute to the deficit.)

(20,829 posts)that the conservatives around me complain about lazy government workers and their fat retirements benefits. When these people themselves are retired with pensions that come from working for private companies who's major contractor was the government. So if the government gives that money to a private company, the company takes overhead off the top then pay a worker, that worker will work their ass off. But if the government pays a worker directly they will become lazy. How does that logic work?
Military personnel are always good until they come out as a liberal then some how they are a bad seed that gamed the system to cover their coward lying lazy ways, see John Kerry 2008 election.
You are speaking to my theory of two kinds of money. A common conservative construct. You see, any money in government hands is tax money and automatically the stolen property of a person who was originally paid that money by a nongovernment entity, i.e. employer, investment bank. This "good" money was fairly earned by the person by the sweat of his brow and his shining intellect. When the government steals it via taxes it becomes tax money, or :"dirty" money. When the tax money passes back into private hands it changes from being tax "dirty" money to again being "good" money. The mere act of passing money from government hands to private hands changes dirty tax money into clean "good" money.
One of the wrinkles is that in order for this change to take place, the money has to be in pre-approved private hands. Giving money to private poor people does not change the money to "good" money, it is still dirty tax money rightfully the property of someone else. However, if the government gives some of its dirty money to, say, Lockheed Martin to build a fighter jet, the money is made clean by the exchange (Lockheed being an authorized good money changer) and the Lockheed employee working on the jet project receives a paycheck good for "good" money from the bank. *I* am a state worker. Since my check is from the government directly, I am paid "dirty" money. Since I am paid dirty money, I am obviously not either hard working or intelligent like the people paid "good" money. Of course, when I go to Best Buy and buy a printer, my dirty money can be converted into "good" money simply by my act of passing into approved private hands, so no one minds TAKING my money, they just hate having to pay it to me.
So that's why privately employed individuals who make lots of good money from government contracts or as a result of government handouts that aid private corporations can rest assured they are collecting richly deserved pensions made up of only "good" money, while complaining about government worker pensions. There are two kinds of money.

(20,829 posts)I mean if they're assuming me the liberal ain't doin' that workin' thing then why do they assume I'm going to be in the work flow traffic to see their stupid bumper sticker. Or have I already thought more about the meaning of their bumper sticker than they possibly will ever do

(37,540 posts)Willfully submitting decades of listening to RW propagandists produces this effect. They've bought the idea totally...whatever you say, Rush. In the real world, they will always lose on the specifics...because arguments can be made and refuted via documentation, hard data and historical fact. No wonder Republicans are anti-science and anti public education. But that does not shake or change the underlining righteousness of their convictions - even if they are totally contradicted by decades of reality.
Seriously, I understand what motivates the top 10% ( in terms of wealth and income), to vote for Republicans because they have a financial interest in seeing Republicans govern. They want one of their own in the WH calling the shots, running justice, and owning the USSC. They're greedheads and more than willing to downsize and break up and surrender the role of the USG to strong, full spectrum private enterprises - like the Koch Brothers. Run Government 'like a business. In business, a few always profit more than the most. Small, weak government but Big Military Budget! This is how RW junta's happen. This is the message we should be making to our same-class neighbors.
Seriously, if the typical Republican voter (say the bottom 70% in income) can't understand what's transpired, politically and economically - over the last 30 years - and assign the blame correctly.... they never will. They are lost.

(35,433 posts)Liberals = White people who enable Black and Hispanic people. You see, Black and Hispanic people are soooo inferior to White people that without government assistance, they would starve to death, so White Liberals take money from hard working White people and give it to Black and Hispanic people.
This message gets conveyed to conservatives every day on AM talk radio.

(27,787 posts)I like to get take out from a near by restaurant.
So I'm sitting at the bar waiting. And sitting next to me a a Sarah Palin fan. He's talking to another guy, trying to see if that guy (apparently an old friend), can help him get a job.
See ... his unemployment is about to run out. And he's worked hard his whole life, not like those "dead beats" who want the government to help them all the time.
And so he goes on and on ... he earned his unemployment ... but the liberal Dems who hate capitalism are the real problem. Sarah Palin is a real Constitutionalist. Blah Blah Blah. Their check comes, and the other guy pays, but they stay ... I think to finish their drinks.
I know the bartender, and he's rolling his eyes at this guy.
So my take out comes, I use my debit card, and when the bar tender thanks me ... I say "No problem, I'm one of those liberal's who hates capitalism, but I do enjoy good take out." Then I left.
The next time I was in, the bartender said that those 2 guys sat there in silence for the next 5 minutes.

(24,461 posts)These dumb fucks know no other way because they don't believe in reason. They just drool on the tickers, loaded questions and cutesy bullshit slogans they're fed from the news stations they watch.
Rule of thumb is this: Anyone who starts their bullshit Faux-speak or uses red-baiting shite like "statist", "statism", "Obammunism", "taking cues from Lenin", "Soshulism", etc . . . I dismiss them right off and tell them "come back to me when you get smarter and stop talking like a troll 12 year old. I'm not even entertaining this as serious discussion."
