Which means she was born in the year of the Great Crash. 1929...
Grew up in Oak Park, Il.
Worked at a Zenith plant as a teen.
Was accepted to Smith College and attended until she met the love of her life (my dad)... Old School.
Funny thing... they were second cousins... And when my grandfathers got together they had a family song where the chorus was, "...And I'm My Own Grandpa."
Really messed with the family tree thing... ya know?
Anywho... I've posted about her exploits in the past, and my dads...
WWII Marine who flew B-25's in the South Pacific... later forward Radar Installation in Korea.
Mom spent Wed-Fri in the hospital because of a fall... no broken bones, just some bruising.
But they wanted to monitor her and make sure she was safe to return home.
And home she is...
Just made steak and Spaghetti Carbonara for her... and she is happy.
She has pasted BOTH Hillary and Bernie stickers on the mailbox out front. When I asked her about that, she said...
"Bernie in the Primaries... and if we have to Hillary in the General.
This is the same lady, who when in a fit of frustration, I said I was switching to "Independent" because politicians only care about the Independent vote...
Well... she gave me the stink-eye and said, "Nooo, YOU are a Democrat... fight for which Democrat you want to be."
Good counsel... and I'm glad you're home mom... and thankful for everything else as well.
Happy Birthday Mom (Grace).

My memory is failing as I can't remember if we've discussed this before - my dad was a rear gunner on a B-25 in the Pacific. -- Army Air Corp though, not Marines. (Air Apaches 345th Bomber Group).

(29,346 posts)(though I have one of my dad and the crew in pretty much the same poses.) I didn't see that I replied to that thread - but I must have had a memory of it.
You must have been pretty young when your dad died - not easy. Mine died in 1965.

(29,346 posts)(BTW I was 11).
My dad had a heart attack in December of 1964 and a second one in March of '65. When he was in the hospital someone from the VA showed up to talk to him because they were trying to figure out why so may Pacific Air Corp vets (I assume of any branch of the service) were having heart problems so early.
My sister-in-law is a hair stylist and had a client whose husband was a B-25 pilot in the Pacific. He and his entire crew were all gone from heart disease before they were 60 (some much younger).
Years later it was admitted that they'd pump the air crews full of speed to keep them alert. Not that that necessarily means there was a cause and effect between that and the heart problems but it does make me wonder if it did some damage. Pop did smoke so there were certainly other factors involved.
When my Mom died I found Pop's service records among her stuff. He was apparently grounded for a while as he was exhibiting signs of battle fatigue. The symptoms listed all matched amphetamine use as well. Again, it just makes me wonder.

It was NOT eco-friendly.
